Finished reading this book today on my train journey into London this morning and found myself using one of the tools in my second meeting-successfully!!!.
I, like many people have over indulged in the past in purchasing books that on arrival are far too 'gung ho' ,hard to digest and preach that your life will be transformed on reading ....this book is different .
Its easy to navigate, the style is conversational and is full of considered approaches to dealing with scenarios ,faced in the world of work where increasing dealing with stakeholders and managing conflict and change are tools we all need practise on.
The fact that I have scribles of notes in the margins of this book, is a testament to its tone, and the manner in which Gill the author engourages you to aproach meetings, conversations with a diiferent mindset.

I got this book to improve the way I present myself in front of my audiences at seminars and guess what? It actually improved the way I communicate in all aspects of my work whether it was with colleagues, clients and even people whom I wanted to work with. The book uses great examples from life that we all know to illustrate and support the teachings making them easy to grasp and believe in. It's all very well reading about how to do things more effectively, but the author digs deeper by focussing on who we might need to become to be an effective presenter and communicator using the tools, techniques and great tips described in the book. (Don't know who said it but we are not Human Doings, we are Human Beings!) I won't say I couldn't put the book down, it is a business book after all, but it does keep your interest high as it's engaging and easy to read at the same time.

I particularly liked the examples of language and how you can use it to influence, not manipulate, the people you work with. This section was particularly powerful especially when used in conjunction with the section on "engaging all yours senses". Definitely worth reading a couple of times and to be used as a reference when presenting, selling or even just when you just want to get your point across to your friends and family.

Gill Graves has clearly drawn upon her extensive experience in designing and delivering presentation skills training to create this excellent guide to preparation and presentation.
It is written in such a way as to be just right for people new to presenting and also those people who have been standing up in front of others for years, and probably need to be reminded about how to really make the most of the opportunity.
The chapters flow in a logical sequence and are very easy to follow and act on in both preparation and delivery.

Based on a successful and in-demand training course she has run over many years, Gill Graves has written an excellent practical approach to being seen the way you want to be seen - as someone with something to contribute, confident, articulate and trusted. This is a much bigger approach than just how you put a powerpoint slide together - it's about the way you present yourself in all sorts of contexts, both at work and in the rest of your life. It'll pay real dividends for anyone who has difficulty presenting to others, but also for anyone (most of us) who don't always come across the way we'd like to. Lots of helpful exercises as well as good models and tips...

Having always worked in an environment where good presentation skills are needed I have been fortunate to have had training in this area however it was many years ago. The thing that I really liked about this book is that regardless of whether you are new to this or just after a refresher the book offers something to everyone. For more seasoned presenters it gives you a different take and approach whilst for novices it holds your hand through the whole process and I particularly enjoyed the psychology behind it all. It is an easy read and you can pick up the book and either read from cover to cover quite quickly or select relevant chapters if you are after specific refreshers or are just short of time. Gill's writing style is great and it's an easy read made real by her reference ro real-life examples. I think that it is important to explain that you do not have to think that you have to be in a role where you regulalry present to actually get benefit from this book - it is perfect for anyone who wants to present themselves well in any envionement, i.e. even on a one-to-one basis, and so on the basis of this it would be applicable to all! I liked it so much I have given copy to my nephew who is in the early stages of his career and believe that he will benefit greatly. Kindle format gives added convenience for those wanting to use it on portable devices.
