A fantastic 2 disc reissue of Dionne Warwick's 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th albums, 42 tracks in all. Edsel/Rhino have done a great job, the sound quality is excellent, most of the tracks are in Stereo except 5 tracks that are in Mono. There is a comprehensive 28 page colour booklet that is very informative liner notes by Tony Rounce and lots of label scans and pics. The quality of music is excellent throughout, a truly great blend of outstanding song writing and the tremendous voice of Dionne.
Cd.1. (55.37mins). `Presenting Dionne Warwick' (1963). An excellent debut album that contains many great tracks `Don't make me over', `Wishin' & Hopin', `Make the music play', `Make it easy on yourself' and my two favourites `Love that really counts' and `I smiled yesterday (a B side) is simply fantastic. Four tracks are in Mono (track 9,10,11 & 12). 10/10.
Also featured is the album `Anyone who had a heart' (1964). The title track is excellent of course, as is `Getting ready for the heartbreak', `Oh Lord...' (although I prefer Big Maybelles version) also very good is `Mr Heartbreak'. A very good album 9/10.
Cd.2. (62.22mins). `Make way for Dionne Warwick' (1964). A very good album that features `Close to you', `The last one to be loved', a great version of `Reach out for me' and my all favourite `You'll never get to heaven...' not to mention `Walk on by'.9/10. (track 9 `Get rid of him' is in Mono).
Also featured is `The sensitive side of Dionne Warwick' (1965). Another good album, perhaps not as strong as the other 3 but it still contains some great tracks. It could be a grower in time. 7.5/10.
Overall, 3 excellent albums and 1 good album. I can't add anymore than HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. 10/10.
