This is the best book of its kind I know. Joan and Lucinda have long experience in making presentations and training students and professional people to speak with confidence and fluency. They understand that yet another title simply repeating the usual advice about delivery, nerves, and non-verbal communication won't do - important though they are. These essential topics are covered in a splendidly practical chapter before we move on to other matters seen specifically from the standpoint of students making presentations of various kinds. A well-focused chapter, updated for this new edition, gives very sensible advice on the effective use of visual aids and the different options now available to a speaker. The rest of the book provides practical guidance on speaking in a range of contexts: seminars, tutorials, individual and group presentations, vivas, meetings, committees, elections, interviews. All this is perceptively written with an appreciation of the pressures today's students have to cope with.

Exercises, checklists and sets of tips punctuate the book, which reinforce the message, serve to highlight key points and provide useful revision summaries for the busy student. The style, language and layout are straightforward, appropriate and user-friendly.

As a teacher of communication skills I can heartily recommend Presentation Skills for Students as an ideal guide and reference book.
