Product Description

Product Description

Spiders, death, the dentist, snakes, flying are in the list of the top ten fears of businesspeople (Book of List). But the top position is held by public speaking. So great is this fear that most businesspeople have a single objective: to get off the platform as soon as possible. This book, based on a hugely successful course given to thousands of businesspeople, shows how anyone can speak with confidence to an audience of any size. Laced with humour and wit, the author emphasizes that you don't have to be a brilliant orator to be an effective speaker in business. Simply being good is plenty, because 95% of all business presenters are so awful!

About the Author

Bob Etherington is a charismatic and inspiring speaker with a background in sales working for Rank Xerox, Grand Metropolitan and Reuters. Today, he runs his own training company, SpokenWord

5.0 out of 5 stars I tried it....and it works (surprisingly), 6 Nov 2006
I saw this guy speak in the City years ago when he was at Reuters and decided to buy the book.It is very good and very accurate. He is quite right when he says most audiences and business speakers share a similar objective "To get out of the room!" But there is something we can all do about it.
So, I had to give a an internal speech in London last week and followed his model to the letter (as far as possible). I even followed his instructions and organised myself a 'clap-trap' at the end. For only the second time in my company's history -I'm told- the audience of 62 people applauded. It felt great. Well done and thank you Mr E.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really interesting book, 13 Aug 2008
By Coverley (Scotland) - See all my reviews
I really enjoyed this book, it is written in a relaxed conversational style with more than a fair share of humour. I found myself imaging some really embarressing situations, I made a mental note not to fall into the trap of the unfortunate subjects.

I am not sure if by reading the book I would be cured of my tendancy to be a quivering wreck, but I really do want to read the book again, firstly because it was such a light hearted cheery account of someones knowledge and experience, but most importantly I really want to take on board some of the brilliant tips given by this excellent author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have one on your shelf, 11 Mar 2008
By Jovita "JK" (Oxford, UK) - See all my reviews
This book was a discovery of the year for me. It is short, clear and I know it will work. Most of all I liked the advice to see the audience as cabages. It helps allot. I am a Scientist myself even so I can easily adopt the rules to the audience I talk to.
