"Contained everything I needed to know to begin teaching adults…I would certainly recommend it to anyone" (Amazon.co.uk Customer Review)

Product Description

This is the third revised and updated edition of Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector, aimed at people new to teaching who need a good basic introduction to all the key aspects at an appropriate level. It is easy to read, with plenty of practical activities and examples throughout. Each chapter relates to specific aspects of the training cycle. It will help anyone teaching in a variety of settings within the sector, for example colleges, work-based learning, the forces, and adult and community contexts. The book is specifically targeted at a range of courses, including the City & Guilds 7303 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS), City and Guilds 7304 Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS), NVQ in Learning and Development and the City and Guilds International Teaching and Training Qualifications. It is also relevant to other awarding body teaching and training programmes, the City and Guilds 7300 Certificate in Trainer Skills, and the City and Guilds 7302 Certificate and Diploma in Delivering Learning.

Having recently embarked on a PGCE course, I felt overwhelmed by the amount of jargon and achronyms that teachers use to explain their teaching methods.

I bought Gravell's book based on good reviews and I wasn't let down. Anne writes in clear and easy to follow chapters that don't overload the brain and has become an essential book in my teaching library.

Would recommend to any aspiring teacher in the post compulsory sector.

Probably you'll get this recommended anyway.

But if you're doing PTLLS and you want extra help, this is the book to get. Get your copy at the BEGINNING of the course as you'll find its usefulness diminishes as the course goes on. I brought my own copy rather than a library version as it enabled me to make margin notes.

It's one of the least expensive books you'll have suggested and I think probably the only one you may need to own. The other course books I borrowed from the library or didn't bother reading; this one was, it turned out, a great help. On the course understanding what needed to be done was, for non-academics like me, sometimes confusing, this book helped illuminate the path and clarify issues.

Using this book I got the PTLLS qualification at level 4 easily.

An excellent book to accompany the course, it mirrors the syllabus and supports it with clear, detailed information and useful web sites. Everyone enrolling should be issued with one as part of the course !
