I would say this book is aimed at players rated 1200-2100 who want to know how to improve their attacking style. This is done by good tips and for my eyes mostly original games to illustrate key ideas and how to plan an attack. I like how Lane in his usual friendly style points out some invaluable tips such as 'count the pieces' which suddenly becomes obvious after a number of games and diagrams. This is for someone who wants to play better but also enjoy the read which means there is more chance it won't just stay on the mantlepiece for ever. I like the sprinkling of the author's own games and in particular the one against former World Champion Smyslov sticks in the mind. There is plenty of chat, good games and importantly for me who is rated around 1800 lots of practical advice.
If you're looking for one book to vastly improve your understanding of attacking chess, I highly recommend this as the first, second and third choice.
