I ordered a pack of photo paper based on what came with the printer; however, I hadn't realised that different paper photo paper has different strengths and weaknesses which could influence your choice. These are listed on the back of your paper pack when it arrives, but this is a bit late to know if you bought the right type! I couldn't find it anywhere on the web, so I've transcribed it here to help people pick the right type for their application. Bear-in-mind that these are the HP grading of their own paper:

So pick carefully, based on what's important to you at the time, it's a balance between price, image quality, fade resistance and drying time. I personally have found HP paper really good.

This photo paper is excellent! I have just printed off a photo I had taken of a sunset and the colours were fantastic! I had already printed off the same photo with an inferior paper and the colours were definitely not as vibrant, in fact the reds came out more orangey. But this photo paper produced beautiful reds, yellows, saffron and pure blacks. The reason I haven't given 5 stars is because it says to leave the photo 7 days before putting into an album or frame. Thats annoying!

I ordered HP Premium Plus Photo Paper 10*15, 280g/m. with tab.
That's what it said on the box but I was surprised to find that the sheets of paper do not have a tab. This is not a problem for me. In fact it is something of an advantage because I do not have to cut the tab of off each print.
So. I'm not complaining but someone else might find it a problem.

HP Photo paper
My HP Photosmart 385 refuses to operate with any other paper than the HP version. No surprises there, then, so the cheap offers in Tesco etc are no use to me! Read more

hp paper no indication
hp paper supplied in clear plastic envelope with no indication it was the right grade. advertisment showed it clearly in an hp box.Not happy.

good quality paper - you must ensure you let it dry though otherwise it will spoil your pictures and that would be an error of your own making!
