    3.0 out of 5 stars A little dissappointed 4 Oct 2011
    Amazon Verified Purchase
I ordered one of these because its states that it is MHEG5 compliant (the uk standard for interactive DTV known as the red button). The first one I received would not tune any stations in, however the replacement unit worked fine but be aware that it is not MHEG5 compliant and will not enable you to use the red button for digital text.

Beware.. the two 5 star reviews for this really misled me into buying one, i'm sending it back.. I bought it to replace an old Bush freeview box which works fine but of course doesn't record or play usb stuff.
This wouldn't pick up anything at all without having a signal booster attached, the Bush doesn't need one & it picks up all channels.
The USB lead that one reviewer refers to as if it is something good is in ridiculous, it is about 3 inches long which means you have to fumble around behind your TV to plug something in, trying to connect two plugs which you can't see & which are really quite fragile and easily damaged.
And without this lead you wouldn't be able to plug any USB device in anyway, so of course it is included, it isn't a 'bonus' item.
The 'comprehensive english instructions' mentioned by the same reviewer are nothing of the kind, i saw an 'active aerial' option in the menu, but there is no mention of this anywhere in the instructions, which by the way were not written in english at all but clearly have been translated into english.. (presumably from chinese by someone who is chinese, you know the kind).
There was no way that i could find to reorder the TV channels, although this option is in the menu.. eventually i gave up, the 'comprehensive instructions' failed to include this too.
To be fair the channel search was very fast and the picture quality is good, although no better than the old Bush receiver that doesn't need a signal booster to pick anything up.
Watching vids via usb is possible, but there is no way that i could find to scan/search through a video, apparently you have to watch it all the way through.. of course there is mention of this in the instructions.

5.0 out of 5 stars pure class 29 Jan 2012
One of the best things ive ever purchased. Plug it in, plug in an mp3 player and you can sit and watch movies, tv shows and listen away to music. IT PLAYS AVI FILES! when i was buying this i couldnt figure out if it played avi files through it, but it does. it also has games, tetris being one and two other i can't remember. I used the freeview once at home in the country, it worked exactly the same as the built in freeview in my tv but i was using a signal booster. I need a signal booster in belfast, but i dont care because i just bought this for movies on my old tv to coincide with living in belfast.
On the whole, if youre looking to connect a USB or MP3 player to an old analogue tv, then this thing is perfect, plus it had tetris :)
If you're lookin it for the freeview, best just go buy a signal booster or another box, freeview won't be good until the switch over is finally complete anyway

1.0 out of 5 stars Not recommened 26 July 2011
    By Graham
I bought two of these, both just stopped working within a week, of each other
Luckily with Amazons great customer service I got a refund on one and a replacement for the other.
Whilst it has been working okay for two weeks now I'm not confident that it will last given the experience of the other two

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent little bit of kit!!! 6 Oct 2011
    By biglad
Bought one of these for my Mums LCD tv which un-fortunately did not have freeview built-in. It literally took five minutes to set up and tuned all channels within seconds which is more than I can say for some other tv's I have re-tuned after the digital switchover. Mum got the hang of the remote and the functions very quickly and I must say I was pretty jealous of it's ease of use etc. I have since purchased another 3 of these for friends and family and would definately recommend to anyone, even techno-phobes!! Only down-side is lack of 2xAAA batteries for the remote but only had to nip to local shop to get things up and running. I have since tried recording to an SD card and it's as easy as sky+. They are brilliant, very discreet and easy to use. Highly recommended!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars disappointing item 17 Aug 2012
    Amazon Verified Purchase
Received item on time. Have not had a chance to use it immediately. When I did, after an hour or so of use, the remote control packed up. (Changed batteries, reset unit several times, ooo).
On a positive note, from what I could notice, the picture quality was very good.
For EPG recording though, you need to spend quite a bit of time to sort it out.
(It could have been programmed a lot better).
Returned item two weeks ago. Have not received my monies back yet. Not sure what to do next.
First time I had to return anything.
I think that it's better to spend a few pounds more, and get something a bit more reliable.

I tried this on three different Tvs and both with and without signal booster. Could not get the picture to lock. Sent it back for a refund and bought a different box which works!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice but a bit expensive.
Great receiver, nicely hidden behind the TV. Good exactly for what you buy it. I recommended to anyone who wishes to use a flat TV without a digital tuner.
