Great value for money, 10 Feb 2004
This is my first digital camera, and I'm very happy with it. It's simple to use, and has a clever menu & function system - everything is easy find on the camera. All the buttons are in good places, so you dont have to move your fingers around much, you just point and click. The screen is quite nice and clear, not huge but is big enough to see if you got the right photo or have to take it again. Build quality is also surprisingly good, it feels well made. It's not too heavy to be cumbersome, and not too light to feel cheap. The lens cover is very useful in preventing scratches - not many digital cameras at this price even have that feature, let alone the TFT screen and flash. It comes with batteries, but of course it would be a good idea to get rechargeables and a charger. Having said that, battery life is pretty good. It helps not to use the screen all the time, and to keep it on auto-flash so that it only uses the flash when it needs to. There are plenty of different photo quality settings. You can choose between 800x600 and 1600x1200. In each of these settings you have a further three choices of quality, by varying the compression of the piccies. I usually have it set on high quality 800x600, as this allows 40 photos to be stored on the internal 8MB memory. This quality is great for viewing photos on-screen, or printing. The camera has an SD port, allowing memory to be expanded up to 128 MB, which is quite generous. The built in video record function is just a gimmick really, but is quite fun - with the memory upgraded to 128 MB you could probably capture three or four minutes of video. All in all, a great camera at a great price - packed with so many features that you just don't get with other cameras in the price range.
