5.0 out of 5 stars The archaeology of the Isle of Anglesey 2 Feb 2008
Format:Hardcover
This is the second edition of this definitive study, written with the general reader in mind and copiously illustrated. In addition to the main text - the archaeology of this exceptionally rich and interesting island up to the coming of the Romans - the book includes an introductory section discussing views and interpretations of prehistory in Britain, and appendices listing radiocarbon dates, environmental data and bronze analyses.
-----------------------
For a thoroughly unreliable (but nevertheless fascinating) eighteenth century view of the history of the island, see the facsimile reprint of Henry Rowlands's pioneering study of 1723, Mona Antiqua Restaurata . An Archaeological Discourse on the Antiquities Natural and Historical of the Isle of Anglesey , the Antient Seat of the British Druids, and the anonymous 1775 supplement to this work, now also available in facsimile, A History of the Island of Anglesey: From Its First Invasion by the Romans, Until Finally Acceded to the Crown of England.
The 2008 reprint of Angharad Llwyd's essay of 1832, A History of the Island of Mona, or Anglesey is another readable and informative account, taking us on a tour of `Mona' (Anglesey) as it was in the early decades of the nineteenth century, recounting the history of the island - so far as it was understood at the time - along the way.

5.0 out of 5 stars land of my fathers 12 May 2014
Format:Hardcover
Currently reading this excellent book and thoroughly enjoying, particularly appreciate the updates in knowledge and evidence from 1st edition. As my fathers family are from Ynys Mon and my y dna is R1b L21, the pre history of Ynys Mon is very personal. I can relate to the geographical sites, very well. My only suggestions are , a map of the sites on the island would have been useful, the title ought to have included Ynys Mon and a bibliography would have been useful to.
