This review is from: Pregnancy and Birth: A Guide for Deaf Women (Paperback)
I brought this for my deaf sister and her boyfriend who were getting upset because they could not fully understand what standard pregnancy books were telling them.
This easy to read book has lots of bullet point and lists to make it easy to understand what you need to know about pregnancy.
This book has some good advise for deaf women in particular, but contains everything you need to know from conception to breast feeding. This is perfect for deaf women, or anyone else, who is having problems with the language of other pregnancy guides.
This book does not assume you know anything and will explain everything to you. For example, my sister was unsure what an umbilical cord was. This is understandable as she there are no other babies in my family and umbilical cords are not an everyday topic of discussion. This book clearly says, in an easy information box, what the cord is for, has a picture of it and explains what will happen to it when the baby is born.
There is advise in the book on food and diet, exercise, labour, what to ask your midwife etc. and there are lots of pictures that will show you, step by step, how to do things like cleaning the baby.
My sister is very happy with the book and much happier now she understands and has an easy-to-use reference guide.
