Product Description

Product Description

This book presents 25 international examples of prefabricated architecture in a contemporary context. This book shows around 25 international houses that are based on modular and prefabrication systems. All of them have ecological advantages in comparison to standard construction systems, since they represent a more effective use of resources and a reduction of construction time and therewith costs. All houses are built in factories, carried by road and assembled on site. Thus, building materials can be used more economically and very few refuse is produced during construction. Due to the actual spread of technologies and construction typologies, the international prefabrication industry can deliver up-to-date houses, aesthetically modern, and with an average rank of prizes from very cheap solutions to more exclusive ones, depending on the main material used (wood, steel, galvanised aluminum and concrete).

A Peek at Prefab 23 May 2010
By E. Jarolin - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book presents 23 houses from Europe, South America and the USA. Their common thread: the use of prefabrication, in one form or another, as well as various eco-friendly strategies.
The designs run the gamut from sleek modernist pavilions to those using vernacular architecture as a design cue. A house utilizing cargo containers; a floating 'barge' house; a house
draped with a tent-like solar reflecting skin. These are here, as well as other inventive takes on the rectilinear forms so often associated with prefab construction. Each house is covered
in 6 to 10 page chapters with a brief introduction and photo captions, in English, French and German, discussing the prefab and sustainable features employed. Color photographs, plans
and elevations are provided for each house, while many are additionally represented with building sections, axonometric views, exploded views and construction photos.

All in all, a very informative overview of the possibilities provided by prefab to the residential designer, as well as to the potential homeowner. However, it should be noted that this is not really
a catalog of off-the-shelf, purchase ready homes available for prompt trucking to your site. While there are several notable examples that approach this ideal, most of the works presented
here are customized, one of a kind designs that make use of the prefab method in order to reduce cost and/or raise quality.

A lot of information and inspiration at a very reasonable price.

By Ann B. Keller - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Those who have an artistic flair, but wish to build on a budget will adore this book! Page after page of photographs and drawings showcase the variety of prefabricated homes currently available in the marketplace.

These homes incorporate a love of style and space, as well as many modern conveniences and enhancements, such as solar power and passive heating. The relaxed, open feeling of these structures frequently welcomes the outdoors inside and anyone who loves nature will enjoy being a part of their own magnificent landscape. Well worth a look if one is considering unique housing options, especially for those on a budget.

A pretty good book on Prefab Houses 27 Feb 2010
By Jason Heinbeck - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
The only thing is that the editor of this book is not Angelika Taschen.

I thought this was a Taschen published book, but it is not. Other than that, it was exactly what I was looking for.
