Book Description

4 Jan 2011 First Mountain Man
Continuing the success of the Preacher series into its 18th book, USA Today bestselling author William W. Johnstone captures the excitement and action that is beloved in his similarly enduring Mountain Man series. The Sante Fe Trail stretches from the Mississippi River to New Mexico Territory through the West s most savage lands. That s why a wealthy trader hires the mountain man called Preacher to keep his trade goods safe and hopefully deliver a flock of pilgrims to a Promised Land. A young prostitute. The spoiled son of the wagon train owner - these are a few of the souls Preacher must protect. But then a rifle goes off at the wrong moment. A towering grizzly bear attacks. And both outlaws and Comanches ambush the wagon train. Now, the travellers are surrounded by predators of every shape and stripe. For Preacher, there is only one way to go straight into the heart of danger, to blaze a killing trail of his own...

4.0 out of 5 stars "Great Visit To An Old Friend" 24 Jan 2012
By John Mercier - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I have read 13 stories on "The Preacher", however I have not read one in just over four years. So it was great to visit an old friend. The author, William W. Johnstone, has a vast background in writing stories of the wild West, but he also has an awesome ability to bring the reader into the mind of his characters. It's exciting and at the same time refreshing to be along with Preacher on a new adventure. This story is about good vs. evil in it's purest form.

In this story, Preacher has two new friends along with him, Casey and Lorenzo, who he befriended in St. Louis. Oh yeah, his closest friends, his dog, Dog, and his horse, Horse, are with him too. Preacher don't waste a lot of time on names. They are on their way West when Preacher is asked to escort a freight wagon train to Santa Fe. That's when the excitement starts and doesn't end even when they get to Santa Fe. Of course being on such a dangerous trail, they all don't make it. Yes, there is romance involved in this story too. So clean your pistol and rifle and saddle up your horse and enjoy the excitment and adventure of this ride.

4.0 out of 5 stars I enjoyed it 25 April 2013
By D. G. Johnson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This was the first series of Johnstone's I read and it's near impossible to figure out where the series started and in what order they were published. This book I liked and have liked the other 3 of the Preacher series.
