Product Description

Product Description

Letting go of what we cherish is one of the hardest things we ever have to do. And that includes letting go of jobs, homes, relationships, good health, illusions, self-importance, and even loved ones. But unless we learn to say goodbye as well as hello, we are crippled by our suffering.
This tender and realistic book can be your personal guide to accepting our inevitable goodbyes even as it reminds us that when we are suffering most deeply, the seed of hope still lives within us. Discover the emotions that goodbyes awaken and turn to the twenty-four specific prayers designed to help you deal with nearly every imaginable kind of loss.
PRAYING OUR GOODBYES should not be kept for special occasions, however, for its poetic wisdom offers the means of enriching every day, of saying hello and goodbye to every precious moment of life. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From the Publisher

The spirituality of change...
Joyce Rupp has written a book about "these experiences of leaving behind and moving on, the stories of union and separation that are written in all our hearts. Praying Our Goodbyes, she says, is about the "spirituality of change." It is a book for anyone who has experienced loss, whether it be a job change, the end of a friendship, the death of a loved one, a financial struggle, a mid-life crisis or an extended illness. It is designed to help the reader recognize, ritualize, reflect on and reorient themselves.

The trees grow more restless; October wind weaves through them: they shake their arms in dismay as if to fight the coming cold and the grief of leaves going. Read the first page

Goodbye 12 Oct 2009
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
PRAYING OUR GOODBYES focuses on events that are common to man and common to human suffering.
PRAYING OUR GOODBYES focuses on the harshness of life, and sticks to the main issues surrounding saying Goodbye, such as: death, change, struggle, pain, loss, loneliness etc.

Sadly PRAYING OUR GOODBYES does not delight in the finer things in life that we maybe very reluctant to say Goodbye to, nor does it focus on the celebrations and the Goodness of life that arise from saying 'Welcome' to the new, and/or 'Goodbye' to the old, such as graduation, the birth of a new baby, baptisms and christenings, a new house or job or marriage proposals and weddings.

There is No Index or detailed Contents Page so you cannot tailor your studies to suit your personal needs, however, PRAYING OUR GOODBYES 'Does' host many 'Guided' Prayers on relevant subjects and reminds us of the value of 'letting go', so that we can begin the healing proceses and 'move on', by saying/Praying Goodbye.

Thank You!

Poignant and from the heart 1 Dec 2000
By Alice J. Wisler - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
My mother gave me a copy of "Praying Our Goodbyes" in 1998, shortly after the death of my son. I am just now getting around to absorbing its wonderful, tender message. I especially like the parts on taking quiet times to reflect on the loss of a loved one. Many may have anger or disappointment with God when a loved one dies and Joyce addresses that and focuses on how our prayers change with loss. She includes many meaningful prayers for various losses in our lives. ---Alice J. Wisler, "Slices of Sunlight, A Cookbook of Memories"

This book was a Godsend 27 May 1998

Format:Mass Market Paperback
The author's words are profound and provide comfort and guidance to those suffering through the various good-byes of life. It helped me work through a very painful relationship break-up. Her description of the "existenstial ache" was a particular comfort and is something we can all relate to. It helps to know one is not alone in one's "aloneness". The prayers and exercises are healing.
