1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed 27 Mar 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I must say I am disappointed with this book. It is sprinkled with grammatical errors and the text has a smattering of 2 or 3 digit numbers scattered about which do not make any sense to me. History is rewritten here and there. The story supposedly takes place in England in the 1500's but what I believe is the American style that is used on some of the wording in the text spoils the chance of creating the atmosphere of the time and place. Having read some of the brilliantly descriptive C.J. Sansom books which places the reader right into the heart of the story I guess I have been spoilt. Nevertheless I have read "Pray for Reign" through to the end but wouldn't bother to re-read at any time. Therefore for me a 1 star rating is fair.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing 4 Jun 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I am an avid reader of tudor history but this one just did not 'do it' for me.
Couldn't get into it at all, and not because of the subject matter, maybe the author's style of writing?
It is rare I do not like a tudor book, particularly one regarding Anne Boleyn, but there are far better ones than this out there.

2.0 out of 5 stars Americanisms! 7 Feb 2012
By Jen 39
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The story is not too bad I have to admit, but the spelling and gramatical errors are numerous. Why oh why does the author try to use "Elizabethan style speach" ?? it is quite laughable at times, sounds more like Yoda than Yoda! then in the next breath you get "gotten" a real American word that even Judge Judy does not approve of. Also, I have never heard of Ann Boleyn referring to Henry as Rex, maybe she was talking to the dog!! I am a fan of Tudor era fiction as well as non-fiction but this one makes me laugh and I don't think it should!!

I well and truly loved this story, I am a big history buff and find the story of Anne Boleyn absolutely fascinating. I found this novel one of the most moving versions of her story I have ever read you can feel the triumph and then despair flowing through yourself. The writing is amazing and you can easily put yourself in Anne's shoes making the roller-coaster of her life and story real in your own imagination.

Truly Brilliant and what makes it even better is it only costs 0.86p on the Kindle

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful 9 April 2013

Inaccuracies ..americanisms..really not worth it if you're a fan of the Tudor era. The author seems to have given well known historical characters her own unbelievable personality designs. Why?

1.0 out of 5 stars Do I really have to give this a star? 7 April 2013
By Sarah
Format:Kindle Edition
Historical inaccuracies, americanisms and typos make this book almost unreadable, it's a shame because it started well but began to deteriorate just before the halfway point. I was particularly astounded by Anne and Henry having a picnic and discussing the adorable way that porcupines waddle...... Really? Porcupines in 16th century England? Hell, porcupines in England at all. Anne was awful in this story, I certainly can't imagine this Anne holding Henry's heart for 10 minutes let alone 10 years! Oh, and someone should let the author know that ladies in waiting to the Queen of England have always been of noble birth, I was irritated beyond belief by the way that Anne Gainsford, Lady Zouche was portrayed as some kind of below stairs, Eliza Doolittle bumpkin type.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a good buy 5 Oct 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm an avid fan of both fiction and non-fiction books about the Tudors. As such, I can suspend my disbelief so far for a decent yarn. This one is a stinker! As mentioned, there are some editing issues that do distract you from the page, but the author's attempts at Tudor language had me howling with laughter. More like Yoda they were!

Do yourself a favour, don't buy this.
