5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating and Funny, 31 Oct 2006

This review is from: Prawns in the Game: How Football Got Where It Is Today! (Paperback)
This is a fascinating history of the commercialisation of the game, right through from the foundation of the first football club Sheffield FC, through to the G14 cash Bonanza. Thoroughly researched this is a must read book for any footy fan. French certainly knows his stuff, but he's no anorak, the book is beautifully written and occasionally very amusing but French has a serous message and one that benefits from his position as an expert rather than a blinkered numpty.

Certainly one of the best books about the business of football I've ever read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Football's "No Logo", 11 Dec 2006

If, like me, you find big corporations and brands overbearing - do we really need a Starbucks and Subway on every high street? - then this is the book for you. As well as being a call to arms for football fans, Prawns in the Game raises some interesting points about the relationship between The Man and the man on the street. Hats off to football's No Logo!

5.0 out of 5 stars A cracking read, 9 Dec 2006

Rifled through this book in no time at all. The informal and witty style of the author is very much that of the average fan on the street, whilst at the same time the book does raise some really serious points. It really got me thinking about how my £40 quid a month to sky is just helping to perpetuate the rise and rise of the money men in football and the dominance of the top clubs at the expense of smaller clubs like mine! Definitely recommended reading for any fan of the real game.
