Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Move over James Redfield. Since The Power of Now was published in the US in 1999 (2001 in the UK), Eckhart Tolle has become the exciting new name on the guru scene. Tolle's message is profound, but like many of the best spiritual messages, quite simple: you need to discover your true self. That's not the person who walks and talks, or even the person inside your head who thinks your thoughts. Step back, Tolle says, and observe the process of thinking; the person doing the observing is the real you. And the only moment that is real is Now; the past and future can both drag you down, so live in the current moment. This is the path to Enlightenment or Self-Realisation.

For those who have been deeply impressed by Tolle's first book and are waiting for a follow-up, note that Practising the Power of Now is not a new book; it is a collection of extracts from the original book--the edited highlights--and short spiritual exercises. Apparently, it is designed primarily for those who already have the original book, but want a slim and concise volume they can carry around and dip into--the meat without the veg, so to speak.

In comparison with the original book, Practising the Power of Now does seem a little scrappy. It's full of profound messages, but the well-argued connecting material is missing. For those who haven't read either, the original The Power of Now is certainly better value for money--twice the length at the same price. But for fans, for those who prefer bite-sized spiritual truths, or as a gift to either of these, Practising the Power of Now contains all of Tolle's teaching in an easily accessible format. --David V Barrett --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book, 7 Dec 2005
By A Customer
This is a wonderful book - I continue to read a page or so each morning (now read 10 times!) and it really changes one's consciousness for the day. It is a simpllified exposition of his 'The Power of Now' (read this too) and brings together so many of the ideas of Zen, Christianity and other beliefs into something that is incredibly practical and empowering. It's brilliant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Psychotherapy, 3 Jun 2009
This book is essential for anybody who feel that the original "The power of NOW" was too deep. It could be said that it is the perfect introduction to the magic of meditation, mental awareness, and self instructed psychotherapy. The book goes through the main themes of "The Power of NOW" without getting too deep, but into enough detail for the reader to have an understanding of how we are not our thought processes, which are a creation of a lifelong programming, resulting in what is called The Ego. After every paragraph the book indicates simple and practical mental exercises that will easily help you to regain control of your mind (subsequently your life) against the control of The Ego.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practicing the Power of Now, 26 Jun 2008

This review is from: Practicing the Power of Now: Meditations and Exercises and Core Teachings for Living the Liberated Life (Hardcover)
Practicing the Power of Now is a handy companion to Eckhart's wildly popular The Power of Now. Essentially, Practicing the Power of Now contains the same information as in the first book. However, I have to say that I prefer this format. The first book was written in a question answer format. These questions came from the author's students. He also included amalgamated questions that covered a variety of common queries. These question and answer sessions gradually took the reader from common perception through to an understanding of the illusions that we generally accept as real and the importance of the present moment.

Practicing the Power of Now is written in formalized chapters summarizing much of the material written that first book such as being and enlightenment; the origin of fear, entering the now, dissolving consciousness, etc. The best quotations, mediations, and exercises first previously presented are also included.
