Get up close and master Spanish subjunctive

As you study Spanish you may see the subjunctive as an obstacle to your full understanding of the language. Learning the subjunctive can be one of the most frustrating aspects of Spanish grammar, but it is also one of the most important for being understood and understanding what others say. By adding Spanish pronouns to your range of language skills, you will open up a whole new world of communication.

With plenty of opportunities for practice, practice, practice, Practice Makes Perfect: The Spanish Subjunctive Up Close helps you better understand the nuances of this often-confusing grammar element and develop your skills and confidence as a Spanish speaker with:

  • Easy-to-absorb explanatory materials, examples, and exercises
  • Authoritative guidance on how to form the four subjunctive tenses and when to use them
  • A comprehensive answer key that not only gives you the correct solutions to the exercises but explains the why behind them

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book on a complex subject 13 Jan 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
"John couldn't believe that his girlfriend had cheated on him"

No disrespect to previous reviewers but the use of these Spanish tenses is complicated. In our own language we have coulds, shoulds and maybe's and a multitude of other complexities, such that most of us never think about the correct terminology, even if we covered it in school.

However, if we learn another language to the level where we need to know the sunjunctives, then yes, the subject will be complicated and heavy going if grammar jargon isn't your thing.

This book is about as good as it gets though, with plenty of examples and exercises.

I concur whole-heartedly with what Brandon has already said and for the money it costs, you can't go wrong.

3.0 out of 5 stars Useful, endure if you can bear it 22 Nov 2009
By Jrs777j
Format:Paperback
What to say about the Spanish subjunctive? Anyone contemplating buying this will know it's quite a challenge and must accept that it can't be 'made easy'. To the extent it can, the book is helpfully divided up into logical chapters. The main drawback is the agonising emphasis on explaining tedious grammatical background - believe me this is arduous in this book, even for a grammar-fan like me. The author also seems to have certain grudges against things and the various snibes/jibes feel a little irrelevant. These points aside, the book tells you what you need to know, and is a handy size for carrying about with you to work on whenever you please.....

2.0 out of 5 stars Viewing on Kindle - problems 31 July 2011
By Pauline
Format:Kindle Edition
I like the book although agree with some of the comments that the reading is heavy going if you have a weak understanding of English grammar.
My main comment is that I bought it to read while travelling and so have it on my Kindle.
Although the text of the book is readable in the usual way - the exercises in the book are impossible to view on the Kindle as they are too small. Whatever format they have used for Kindle - it doesn't work.
As the title suggests - Practice makes perfect - so I am not likely to ever be able to perfect my Spanish if I can't read the exercises to practice..

I have got around this by downloading the program "Kindle for PC" from Amazon and can now read the exercises on my PC screen without any problems.
I don't know if the other books in the "Practice makes perfect series" have the same problems for Kindle viewing.

I have given the book only 2 stars based on its suitability for Kindle.
