5.0 out of 5 stars Dull, expensive but essential 6 April 2009
By M
Format:Paperback
You will struggle to pass the City and Guilds without it, just about every answer you need for the exam is in here.
It is poorly written, a bit clumsy and appears to have missed a final edit as some terms are confusing and much information is repeated. The index is outstandingly terrible.
Oh and it is way overpriced.
But you wont get by without it. Many of the exam questions are literally lifted from its text.
I passed with 100% using just this and "PAT: Portable Appliance Testing: In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment" by Brian Scaddon. I found the IEE Code was by far the most useful.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4th edition being published in November 2012 14 Aug 2012
By LG
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Hi, a good guide to all you need to know about PAT Testing.
Just be aware that the 4th edition is due to be released in November 2012.The book has been revised to take account of the PAT aspects of Professor Löfstedt's report and the HSE view that promotes a proportionate risk-based approach when assessing the safety of electrical equipment and appliances. This will help users, those responsible for the equipment and testers of the equipment to maintain safety.
HSE encourages the adoption of this approach.
The changes will also be reflected in the City & Guilds 2377 course.
The Code of Practice enables duty holders to understand the requirements placed on them in law to maintain electrical equipment, using correct documentation, that falls under their control and to understand what inspection and testing involves. It also gives guidance to those carrying out in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment (PAT).

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent aid in exam success 6 Nov 2009
Format:Paperback
As an approved electrician I can say the the IEE code of practice for inspection and testing of electrical equipment is an excellent aid in the City and Guilds 2377-12 exam. Unlike the 17th Ed regulations, the book is easy to navigate through using either the contents or index. Would highly recommend to anyone sitting the exam mentioned above.

3.0 out of 5 stars COP 14 Nov 2010
Format:Paperback
This is essential for the course, but it is badly laid out and so many repetitive lines throughout. A book of half the pages could probably have told the same story but then anything that is a must for electricians from the IEE seems overproduced and overpriced.

4.0 out of 5 stars Expensive, but worth it 3 Mar 2010
Format:Paperback
Rather pricey, but very well written and laid out. (Unlike many electrical regulation books.) Easy to "scan" for information. I bought it for the C&G exam. Excellent for that, but will also be a useful reference book, now I have passed!

No words needed for this book other than a necessity and vital book for any in PAT Testing. Very good explanatory procedures for testing and descriptions of items, and the pass safety levels required. A must book, but only negative is the extortionate cost asked for this book. Many more books with more detail and pages cost approximately half this price. Thus the IEE seek such an extortionate price knowing the public WILL have to pay the cost to get into PAT testing!
