Product Description

Review

"At last ... a truly practical wildlife care book describing both the medical care and rehabilitation of British wildlife casualties. This guide is essential for any veterinary clinic or rehabilitator ... a sound investment for the veterinary clinic or personal library."

Veterinary Nursing Journal

"A simple straightforward guide on first aid, feeding and rehabilitation of all the major species – essential reading for anyone involved in the care of wild animals."

Nigel Taylor, writing in The Daily Express

"Les Stocker MBE is perhaps the best known and probably the most experienced British wildlife rehabilitator. Practical Wildlife Care is written in a sufficiently informal style to hold the attention of the interested amateur yet contains enough medical detail to inform the veterinarian."

From the Foreword by Dr John Lewis, International Zoo Veterinary Group

"This book...is an excellent reference for the care of the many wild species. There is a wealth of information not usually covered in the typical veterinary curriculum."

Kathy Lyon, Veterinary Information network

"The way the book is set out, combined with the amount of information contained, makes it of value to anyone working with wildlife casualties, in any capacity."

Iain McKay, Veterinary Times

Nigel Taylor, writing in The Daily Express

A simple straightforward guide on first aid, feeding and rehabilitation of all the major species.

Prior to this book being written, anybody involved in the care of wildlife had to rely upon their own basic skills and the sometimes limited aid of the veterinary surgeon. I work as a veterinary nurse and many of the cases and examples used in the book won't or will rarely be seen in practice yet it is always useful for the information on hand 'just in case'. Wildlife can deteriorate very quickly and trying to find from various sources the help these animals needs only adds to their suffering.

Although most of the information is aimed at the veterinary surgeon in relation to drugs required and any surgical procedures, this book will be of much use to anybody who deals with wildlife be it in their home or a wildlife sanctuary.

Highly recommended! 28 April 2008
Format:Paperback
I have been rehabilitating wild birds for 7 years and this has book been extremely useful along with his St Tiggywinkles Wildcare Handbook. The book includes chapters on first response, fluid therapy, wound management, fracture management, diseases, hand rearing, diet, with separate chapters for each different group/species of birds and mammals. Fantastic detail and clear diagrams and photographs. This book is essential for UK rehabbers!
