Product Description

Product Description

Practical Skills in Biomolecular Science, is an indispensable book for undergraduate students in the life sciences. The book provides useful support at all stages of a degree course and underpins any practical course in biochemistry, biomedical science, genetics, immunology and microbiology. It is also a valuable resource for teachers of biology in colleges and secondary schools.  Laboratory and field studies are essential components of undergraduate training in biomolecular science. Practical work must be fully understood and effectively presented, but many students under-perform because they lack basic laboratory skills. This book, now in its third edition, continues to provide students with easy-to-use guidance for laboratory and field studies, but in addition it now covers broader transferable skills. As a result the new edition provides guidance and support over the entire range of a typical undergraduate course in biochemistry and biomedical science.

From the Back Cover

"An essential book for all Life Science students – a highly recommended purchase for their degree."

I brought this book towards the end of my 3rd year of a biomed degree at newcastle uni and wish I'd brought it much earlier. We all rush out and buy the recommended text books in the 1st year most of which you never look at and maybe are not "that" essential but having brought this one I implore you to fork out for it especially if they is a large practical element to your course and/or if your thinking of a lab based dissertation. It has helpful walk throughs of most major practical techniques aswell as lots of typical lab based calculation how to's and practise questions. Buying it now and reading it will save you loads of time, dont buy it the week before your practical techniques exam like i did!

I bought this book as part of my degree and have carried on using it into my PhD. It is ideal both for looking into a technique that you have little knowledge on, as well as a reference for the protocols if you are unsure about how to carry out the technique. The additional information on statistics and other transferable skills makes this book an extremely useful buy, at a very reasonable price for the content it contains!

I haven't had the chance to read the book yet, but I already saw the contents and it seems really great and useful. The copy came really fast, much earlier then expected. I recommend this book for everyone in the scientific field who wants to learn more and to enrich their knowledge on general (but crutial) stuff on the area. In my opinion, one of the most valuable books I bought until this day.
