It's been a few years since I used Poser, and when I recently restarted I upgraded to Poser 8 and thought this book would help me get to grips with it again.
If anything, it made me realise that very little has changed in how Poser is actually operated.
Really, if you have any experience with previous versions of Poser, you'll work P8 out for yourself, and while this book does have a few (a few) good tips, you'll find you're mostly reading stuff that you already know - And frankly, given the exorbitant price of this book, you'll be paying a LOT for just a few tips.
On the other hand, if you are completely new to Poser then I can recommend this book with hardly any reservations (other than the price). It will teach you a lot. On the other hand, you could join one of the Poser-friendly forums (such as Renderosity) and pick up all the info you need for nothing.

I already had the Practical Poser 7 book and was really unsure if the new information in this book was going to be worth the cost. Having just upgraded to Poser 2010, the major reason being the ability to run in 64bit, I decided to take the plunge.
The first impressions were not good as the greyscale examples are poor and sometimes difficult to see the differences referred to in the text. Also the colour reproduction in the center well produced but I personally found the subject matter to be poor. While the render examples given are way beyond anything I can produce at this point it did not provide the inspiration I would expect from a book in this class and better examples can be seen every day on the many 'Poser' related sites.
Thankfully I warmed to the book very quickly when I began to read as I found it written in a relaxed but informative style. Much of the content of the book is the same as the previous publication but it did cover a great deal of the new content in Poser 8.
Reading the book has improved my use of Poser 2010, both in time and ease of use, and the extra knowledge gained is beginning to show in my renders.
If you are on a tight budget you probable want to give this a miss, particularly if you have the previous edition. On the other hand if you are new to Poser, do not have the previous version, or have just purchased Edition 8 or 2010 this book does have real value and is really worth the cost at the Amazon price.
