This is an excellent introduction to cabling. It covers the common cable types from 10Base2 to SX fibre. It also refers back to Arpanet systems for a broad overview.

I wanted a book that I could sit down and read through to gain a better understanding of network cabling issues. My paticular interest is network design and this book brought to my attention factors, such as mains earthing, that I had previously over looked.

The book is written in a style that makes it easy to read, so that I had no problem reading it from cover to cover. However, I also find it a useful reference when I need specifics on why a particular cabling strategy is best.
