2.0 out of 5 stars A beginning not an ending. 13 July 2009
Format:Paperback
An early forerunner to the art of mentalism the author of this book seems to have stumbled on a number of phenomenon, the understanding of which was in its infancy. As a result the theory is questionable while the method sound. It encourages the reader to hone their observational skills suggesting various methods of practice. A step-by-step guide each new performance building on the last. Though alot of the information and reasoning behind the phenomenon in the book is, as we now know, misguided the skills resulting from practice will bear fruit. Though this book may suggest the way it is not in its self some long forgotten holy grail.

1.0 out of 5 stars Naive, outdated material 17 Sep 2007
By M. Zust - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
As a professional mentalist and former college professor, I found the material in Practical Mindreading to be anything but practical. Nowhere in the book's description does it say that the book was written in the early 1900s. The author gushes about the "scientifically proven" phenomenae he has observed, without presenting any concrete validation. Other than as a treatise on Victorian naivetee, this poorly researched and written book is worthless.
