Product Description

Product Description

This practical manual on sperm analysis presents the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures that are used in andrology laboratories to analyse and assess male infertility. Diagnostic areas include: semen analysis and the biochemical, immunological and microbiological examination of human semen and spermatozoa; computer-aided sperm motility analysis; sperm ultrastructure; and assessment of sperm transport through the female tract and sperm fertilizing ability. The clinical relevance of various diagnostic procedures is also discussed. Therapeutic topics include sperm washing techniques, semen cryopreservation, and insemination procedures. The volume also covers safety in the andrology laboratory, technician training, and quality control. The text is extensively illustrated and will be an invaluable resource to all scientists and technicians who diagnose male infertility. It will also be of interest to researchers working in human gamete biology and reproductive physiology. The detailed methods described in the book are relevant to all hospital, commercial, and university laboratories involved in infertility diagnosis and treatment.

Format:Hardcover
This book was published before the most recent WHO manual (1999), but it is still up to date, giving pertinent background and practical information that the WHO manual lacks.

Among specialist, details could always be discussed, but if all laboratories involved in semen analysis complied with the methods described in this book, the universal quality would increase tremendously.

Also, clinics buying services from andrology laboratories should be able to use this book to be able to demand services of acceptable standards.

The definitive work on Laboratory Andrology 24 May 1999
By Erma Z. Drobnis - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This is the definitive work on human Laboratory Andrology. Not only does Dr. Mortimer give detailed protocols for performing laboratory testing of male fertility, but he also provides the scientific background for each test and clinical significance of the results. In addition, he discusses quality control and laboratory management issues. Each section is clearly written with straightforward explanations. There are excellent illustrations throughout. As a practicing Andrologist, who directs an Andrology Laboratory, I can not imagine getting by without this reference. I highly recommend this text to anyone who performs semen analysis. The text would also be of interest to sperm biologist working with domestic, exotic and research species.
