More About the Author

Henriette Kress was born in Germany where she learned her first herbs with her grandma. She moved to Finland when still quite young. Herbs were her hobby throughout her first career (in logistics) as well as her second one (as a finance manager).

Her web site (henriettesherbal.com) is one of the oldest and largest herbal sites on the internet. It was launched in 1995.

Henriette became a full-time herbalist in 1998, after she attended the Southwest School of Botanical Medicine in USA. She is a professional member of the American Herbalists Guild.

Henriette's books in English:
* "Practical Herbs", 2011 (a translation of the Finnish book "Käytännön lääkekasvit")
* coming in 2013: "Practical Herbs 2" (a translation of the Finnish book "Käytännön lääkekasvit 2")

Henriette's books in Finnish:
* "Mintusta voikukkaan", 2000 (no longer available)
* "Hanhikista kissanminttuun", 2001 (no longer available)
* "Käytännön lääkekasvit", 2010
* "Käytännön lääkekasvit 2", 2012

Henriette's books in Swedish:
* "Praktiska läkeörter", 2011 (a translation of the Finnish book "Käytännön lääkekasvit")

Henriette's first two books in Finnish have both been completely sold out since 2005. They aren't even available in used book stores: a testimony to their excellency. Her newer books are even better than the first two.

Product Description

Practical Herbs is written for everyone who likes to harvest and process their own herbs from the wild or from their gardens. This volume includes comprehensive instructions on herbs that are easy to grow or find in northern Europe--stressing teas over tinctures, as local tradition dictates. The author, Henriette Kress, learned her first herbs at her grandma's knee and has studied herbs and their uses ever since.

Henriette's knowledge and experience of herbs comes over very well in this very useful, informative book. Henriette is helping to keep herbal medicine alive by showing people how to identify herbs, explaining their properties and teaching us how to prepare them.

Clear, concise and beautifully illustrated. Suitable for the herbal novice or qualified Herbalist. Lots of handy tips available on how to make tinctures, oils, salves and other herbal delights but most importantly how and why things go wrong when making them. Henriette's experience and love of herbs is clearly shown in this book. I would definitely recommend this book, go buy it!

This really useful & beautiful book should be on every Herbalists desk - it is too lovely to put on a shelf. The pictures are of a high standard and really useful for those who may not get to see plants in their natural habitat and information accompnying them is practical and very useful including methods of use. Not overly big all students snd lovers of herbs should have this practical book.

I have many books on herbs and this one is a great addition. Good information on 'ordinary' herbs that grow a lot around here.
