I think we can safey assume that if one fundraising book -of the many on offer- was a recipe for success, everyone in one of the world's fastest growing sectors would have a copy by now. Maybe this is overly-simplistc given that so much depends upon your cause, the fundraiser, his/her contacts and abilities, strategic planning, capital to start the ball rolling...
Having said all of this, I had high hopes for this book as it seemed to offer a busy person's practical guide to effective fundraising and PR.

Yes, there are some useful checklists particularly for media event planning and for someone who has not had any significant experience in the field before, but on the whole I felt that this book taught me very little that someone with a bit of CV writing experience, commonsense communications skills and armchair psychology couldn't have written on the back of an envelope on an undelayed commuter journey into London.

Volunteer Management is covered elsewhere much more effectively- (McCurley and Lynch's bible), Trust fundraising (a few Director of Social Change books are much more useful here) and corporate fundraising one of the growth areas for many charities, hardly got a mention.

Ultimately, I don't feel that reading it has given me the knowledge to generate additional income for the charity's work. I guess, this is the point...
