Book Description

16 Jun 2011
This book is about how to keep bees in a natural and practical system where they do not require treatments for pests and diseases and only minimal interventions. It is also about simple practical beekeeping. It is about reducing your work. It is not a main-stream beekeeping book. Many of the concepts are contrary to "conventional" beekeeping. The techniques presented here are streamlined through decades of experimentation, adjustments and simplification. The content was written and then refined from responding to questions on bee forums over the years so it is tailored to the questions that beekeepers, new and experienced, have. It is divided into three volumes and this edition contains all three: Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional! 5 Nov 2011
By Icarus
Format:Hardcover
Let me start by saying that I did not get this book from Amazon, and secondly I never write reviews - this is one exception.

I first came across Michael Bush's words of wisdom via his website. Then I noticed that when Googling questions, most of the answers I was looking for would appear as his entries on beekeeping forums.
So I gradually ended up just reading his entries on topics I was looking for, as they are always the ones with concise(almost to the point of being parsimonious with his use of words), factual, BS-free information.

The book is written in much the same vein: in some ways, it is just a rehash of his website, but this is meant to be a positive comment: at 3am when something is bugging you, you can just pick up the book and find what you are looking for without having to turn on the pc - it's all there.

The other nice thing is that Michael writes about natural beekeeping without shouting about it or getting on his soapbox or being in your face: it's just the way he does things, and he imparts wisdom and knowledge without lecturing, unlike a lot of "Natural" beekeepers who decry eveything and everyone else through their tunnel vision.

I have hundreds of Beekeeping books and magazines, some of them 200 years old, as well as CDs, DVDs and clippings - this book will now always have pride of place on my bookshelf, and I am sure it will become a de facto reference Bible in years to come. Well done MB.

5.0 out of 5 stars The practical beekeeper 4 Nov 2011
Format:Hardcover
I found the book very inspiring and helpful. I was interested on a natural method that would have the bees at its center. This is a great book for those who really care about the future of beekeeping and the survival of bees through the creation of stronger, healthier bees. I would certainly recommend it to anyone who wants to practice natural beekeeping.

5.0 out of 5 stars Please read! 16 Sep 2012

After looking though Michael's website, I decided that this book was a gem! I've learnt a lot about keeping my bees in the dodgy UK climate and it has helped!
Very sensible advice and no stress, no hard work, just do it and trust the bees. The Bees, have after all, been doing this stuff a damn sight longer than all of us - so called - bee keepers. Nature knows best, let's go with it!
