Product Description

Product Description

Powertraveller Solarmonkey Adventurer Solar Portable Charger:
The solarmonkey adventurer is a slim-line, portable solar charger with an integrated lithium-ion polymer battery, capable of giving you up to 2 full charges on an iPhone or smartphone, a GPS up to 3 times, as well as being able to charge virtually any other 5V device.

Works With:
The solarmonkey adventurer will charge any device that can be recharged via USB i.e. smartphones / iPhones, iPods, e-readers, GPS, handheld games consoles and will even give a 25% charge on an iPad / tablet – virtually any small handheld device. To charge your Apple device, simply use the Apple-supplied white sync / charge cable directly into the USB socket.

To work out the voltage of your device:
If your device is charged via a USB socket (either directly into a computer socket or via a USB AC power plug) – the maximum voltage of your device will be 5 Volts, therefore the solarmonkey adventurer is perfect.

Battery Capacity and Charge Times:
The solarmonkey adventurer has an integrated 2500mAh lithium-ion polymer battery and when charging your device from the battery only (say at night), this will output power at the same rate as if you were charging your device from AC mains power. The solar panels will recharge the internal battery in 8-12 hours.

One of the features of the solarmonkey adventurer is that it can simultaneously charge the integrated battery via the solar panels, whilst it is charging a device via the USB port.

Stylish and Compact Design:
Weighing just 265g, the solarmonkey adventurer is lightweight and the neat, folding design means that it is perfect for even the most space-conscious of users. Made from high quality, rugged materials, this compact solar charger is also water and shock resistant shell so can take quite a few knocks and spills.

Complete with a bespoke, travel case that features an insulation layer from -10 to 90°C, as well as a handy carabiner, the solarmonkey adventurer can be attached to backpacks and tents to soak up the sun.

Who’s It Suitable For?
If you’re looking for a space-saving, lightweight portable solar charger for your small 5V devices, then the solarmonkey adventurer is for you. Perfect for beach holidays, hikers, runners, camping trips or if you just can’t be without your must-have gadgets, the solarmonkey adventurer offers you real solar power on the go.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best product you can get 2 Aug 2012

Just received this product in the post and I am very happy with it - I definitely made the right choice.

First of all it's important to mention that the first one I received had a slight problem - the USB input cover wouldn't snap into place and stay in place.
I sent it back to Amazon and the next morning I had a brand new one in the post - that's what I call service.
The new one does not have this problem, the cover works perfectly, so it must have been a faulty one off device.

    OK so about the product...

I am impressed with the build quality- it feels very well made and rugged, all the connecting cables are well made and snap together securely.
The clam-shell design fabric case is made from very tough backpack nylon type material, on the top and bottom ends there are large loops to allow you to hang this to catch the sun, for instance on your backpack as you walk.
the pouch also has three 'slots on the sides of the push so you can fasten it to your belt etc.
The pouch is opened and closed with a big chunky zip, much better than smaller fiddly ones which catch the material or break.

the device itself also feels really well made, covered in ribbed non-slip black rubberised plastic.

The design, like all good design, is really simple - there are no buttons, no screens, just a single light - green=charged, red=charging, when you are charging a device the light is off, that's it.
It was sunny today so as soon as I got it out the box I opened it up and put it in the sun, straight away the light turns red, when the clouds come, the light goes out.

It is quite amazing that such a small device can manage to supply power from the sun and load almost any mobile devices.
It really works and I'm really impressed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely useful and charges from USB too 19 Dec 2012
    By Brian B
I use this whenever I go on holiday as it means I can just charge my phone when I'm out. It has a nice case which is easily attached to the back of bags. It is also chargeable via USB. It's great to be able to have this on long flights where I don't get to charge for a while and want to play on my phone a lot

I can't judge on how well it works with iPad as I don't own one but for mobile it's been really useful and it's a high quality product as well. It feels sturdy and have had no issues with it so far. Cables plug in and stay put too which is always a worry of mine (no wobbling to get things to charge)

    1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work... 24 Jun 2014
    By Marcusk

I bought this last week and after a full sun charge (so the light goes green) it only charged just under 50% of my Samsung S4 before it stopped charging and after 2 emails Powertraveller support still haven't answered my request for some sort of answer, so I am going to have to return to Amazon and may consider a replacement to see if the first one was faulty. Why don't companies respond when you discuss a faulty/issue with a product? I just don't get it... anyway its a shame as in writing it looks like an ace product

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome product! 9 Jun 2014

Very quick delivery and arrived in perfect shape. Works like it should and the price is right. Bought this as a backup power source for our upcoming trip to the remote jungle areas of Nicaragua, so it's going to be tested in rough circumstances. Seems to load relatively quickly if placed in the direct sunlight in a right angle. Clam-shape is a great feature for optimizing the load. Reserve battery is also one of the best features in this item.

2.0 out of 5 stars Another solar charger that does not deliver! 14 Mar 2014
    Verified Purchase
I thought this solar charger looked the business, but I was disappointed. The charger fits poorly in the case and is forever falling out, the rubber plug for the socket does not stay in and worst of all the battery does not seem to hold its charge for long. Sent my unit back for refund!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great companion 20 Feb 2014

Have been using it in the kayak, skiing in the forests and the Swedish mountains as well during long hikes. Always works as it should. Has so far never failed keeping three phones and two cameras charged. Could of course always be smaller and lighter ;)
