Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Powermat Home and Office mat: Introducing Powermat, the revolutionary new charging system that enables you to wirelessly charge up to three devices at the same time. Each Powermat Mat is stylishly designed to flawlessly integrate into its surroundings. The Home & Office Mat is designed to look great in any domestic or work environment and has been engineered to give you years of reliable performance. The Powermat Wireless Charging System provides a simple, fast and efficient way to keep all of your favourite personal electronic devices charged. There are many benefits to the Powermat charging system, the most obvious one being the ability to lose the spaghetti of wires that clutters your home. The Powermat is simple to use, just connect your Powermat receiver (sold separately) and then drop your product on to the mat and charge. Powermat is also energy saving, being able to charge up to three devices at one time with the use of only one plug. It’s not just energy efficient either, it charges just as fast as your standard adaptor. Enabling your devices with Powermat Receivers is what allows you to Drop and Charge them on any Powermat Mat to experience wireless charging. Every Powermat Receiver seamlessly recognizes and bonds to the device that it will enable to charge wirelessly. A magnetic attraction between every Receiver and each access point on every Mat assures that alignment is precise and the most efficient charging will occur. This is one of the keys to the Powermat system’s ability to charge your devices as fast or faster than the original power adaptor. The RFiD Handshake is the communication between the Mat and the Receiver which allows the mat to deliver an exact amount of power for the proper length of time so that the transfer of power is safe and efficient and no energy is ever wasted. A unique sound tells you that a solid connection has been made and that your device is now charging. A second, similar sound is heard when the device is removed. The level of these sounds can be changed to your preferred volume or they can be turned off. Each access point also has a corresponding light indicator that informs you that wireless charging is occurring. Again, the intensity of these lights can be changed or they can be turned off. When a device reaches full charge, power is shut off to that device to save energy. Other devices will continue to charge until they too are full. Once full power is achieved and the Auto Shut Off has occurred to save energy, the system will monitor the status of the battery in your device. If the battery is used, the system will again initiate charging and return the battery to a full charge. A USB connection is available on every Mat for legacy devices providing another source for power rather than finding an additional power outlet. Each product includes both the Powermat Home and Office mat and a Power supply. Please note that the Powermat system requires both a mat and a receiver. The appropriate receiver for your device must be purchased separately.

Genius! 5 Nov 2009
Had one of these for a couple of days now for my iPod, phone and my kids DSi and it does its job beautifully. Very simple to set up and looks very cool. You just plug the Powermat in and away you go. One thing to remember -you must buy the corresponding enabling device for the product you want to charge! Dont do what i did originally and buy the mat without the piece of kit that makes your products compatible!

i.e. if you want to use this product to charge your iPhone you need to buy the iPhone enabling device. This is just a "back door" (cover on the back of your phone!) which you replace the existing back door with and away you go. This works pretty much the same way for all devices you can charge with Powermmat. Otherwise for iPods you get a dock which sits on the Powermat or for most phones apart from Balckberrys and iPhones you can get a dock which sits on the Powermat supplied with lots of different adaptors.

All this is explained in the video on the Amazon Powermat product page - i should have watched this! Never mind as i have it all working now and i love it!

At first glance this technology seems like a great idea - you get rid of those unwanted cables. Then you realize - once you actually start to use the equipment that it is as cumbersome if not more cumbersome than using individual chargers for your devices. If you own an iPhone 3Gs the available powermat cases are NOT compatible with this latest iPhone version and so you need a Powerblock with it's own wires and adaptors. So think about it - you replace your nice, neat iPhone charger with a Powermat, it's power cable, a powerblock power adaptor and it's associated connector plug. It seems also that if you have an older iPhone and the specific charging case for it that it's actually not meant to be left on the phone after it's charged!! so one is supposed to remove the case after every charge?? does the original phone charger not appear even more convenient in the light of these issues?

This is compounded by the fact that Powermat's customer support is essentially non-existent, on trying to contact both UK and U.S. support regarding availability of device specific attachments and whether these attachments are actually designed to be left on the device when it is not being charged - there was no reply - at all!

In order for this technology to practical and useful the availability of the relevant device specific cases/battery doors should be made clear. In addition if the cases are not meant to be left on the devices the powerblock is as useful as the specific cases. It thus follows that your original charger is as effective and less cumbersome. In my opinion this technology promises more than it delivers and is not ready for the market. If Powermat wants you to part with your hard-earned cash they should finish developing the technology so that it delivers what it appears to promise and also customer support should SUPPORT existing CUSTOMERS with at least some information.

Bottom line - don't do it! wait for these guys to fix their products.

O.K, but..... 6 May 2010
I have just bought one of these chargers, and I also bought a iphone charger case. these work fine, but my wife has a 3g iphone with no case, but i thought i could charge via usb port on the back of the powermat. I plugged in my wifes iphone via apple cable, into the usb port, but it will not charge...My ipod video does, using the same cable, so why won't my iphone? Have they done this on purpose in order for you to buy another case? it seems quite unfair...

Be very cautious before buying this item: extremely disappointing.
Do not buy this item unless you have read the small print. As others have said, I did not realise that it would not work without a receiver. Read more

Not great
Did not realise that you needed to purchase additional components which made the whole device pricey for the function it provides.
