Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Ever wondered what it would be like to have free power?. Well now you can with the Solarmonkey - a fantastic portable solar charger that folds up neatly and can be stored away until you next need it!. With a tough, rubberised casing, the Solarmonkey can be attached to a rucksack, hung from a window, left in a car or taken anywhere the sun shines!. Please be aware that this is a solar product with no internal battery, it works from UV light so the stronger the sunlight - the better your solarmonkey will work - it's perfect if you're going on holiday!. The solarmonkey has been field-tested in the Amazon, the Arctic, The Himalayas and the heart of Africa where solar strength is good and the product powered devices excellently. Because of the dreary UK weather, you will not get the same results here!. And remember, if you're using the solarmonkey whilst inside a room such as a conservatory, some glass panes have a UV filter which may affect the power output of the solarmonkey.

Product Description

Is your mobile phone always running out of juice in the middle of an important call? Fed up with your iPod battery running out whilst you're sunning yourself on the beach? Or you're trekking through the Himalayas, relying on your tunes to keep you motivated and all of a sudden there's silence and the recharging icon is winking at your from your iPod screen? Don't fret! solarmonkey is here and ready to provide you with power - directly from the sun! You won't even have to get off your sun lounger... The solarmonkey can be connected directly to your phone, iPod, PDA, PSP and more, enabling you to recharge without the need for batteries or a mains power supply! The solarmonkey works via two solar panels which geneate an electric current when exposed to light, which in turn charges your device. (Please Note: The solarmonkey does NOT hold a charge.) The solarmonkey now comes complete with a velcro strap, enabling you to attach it to a rucksack - perfect for keeping your gadgets charged whilst you're trekking up a mountain!! Specially designed to work with the solarmonkey, the included solarnut reserves redundant solar energy so that if a sunny day turns cloudy whilst you're using your solarmonkey, charging of your device is not affected. It will regulate the supply of power to your device, meaning yet another stress-free charge courtesy of Powertraveller! solarnut can also be used as a stand alone emergency charger, providing you with up to a quarter of mobile phone power or at least 15 minutes of talktime. To make the most of your solarnut, recharge it (via solarmonkey) at least once every 2-3 months! Plus - you can get free play from your iPod - wherever you are! If you've got one of our soundtraveller speakers, you can use the solarmonkey to provide you with power to play your music! Simply plug the solarmonkey into the back of the speaker and away you go! With no need for batter

5.0 out of 5 stars Very clever item!!, 16 Jul 2008
I have one of these sat in the window charging my Nokia now, i use it to charge my ipod, PSP and BB. It works as long as there is some sun, but will work under a bright lamp as well, I would think you have a damaged/faulty unit. I have used loads of other so called solar chargers and this is the only one that really works...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not suitable in the UK, 10 Jul 2008
By Allan D. Greenshields (Scotland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is a great concept and being someone that spends alot of time outdoors, I thought it would be great for me.

However, I have come to the conclusion that it is absolutely useless in the UK. We just don't have a strong enough strength of sunlight for it to work.

I have tried leaving it for a full day connected to various devices and it just doesn't work. I will take it on holiday abroad to see if it is any better there, but here in the UK .... it is useless.

Pity. I just wish someone else had written such a review before I parted with the money for mine. But, hey, I suppose someone had to be the guinea pig for it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Rubbish - would give zero stars if I could, 26 Jul 2008
By Mr. T. Walker (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Bought this at Heathrow to recharge my Tom Tom sat nav as I'd left the charger in the car. Thought it would at least do something helpful. No chance! Sunny and hot all week in Ireland in July. It took a full week to recharge the Tom Tom. After a 3 hour car journey there wasn't enough power for it to even start up. Considering returning it to Dixons on the basis it doesn't comply with the Sale of Goods Act.
