Product Description

Product Description

Powertraveller powerchimp lite is a handy emergency charger for iPhone 4/4S, BlackBerry, other smartphones (including HTC and Samsung) and iPods. Giving a 30 percent recharge on smartphones and a 50 percent recharge on iPods, the powerchimp lite houses 2 x AA batteries in a tough, compact shell and comes complete with adaptors for the most popular phones. To charge your gadget, insert 2 x AA batteries (compatible with all AA batteries), open the rubber cover at the top, connect charging cable, attach the required tip and connect to your device. Then press the On/Off button. The LED will be red, indicating that it's charging your device. The powerchimp lite also features a useful flashlight which is activated simply by pressing the On/Off button when the charging cable is not attached. Once you plug the charging cable in, the flashlight is disabled - genius. Available in blue colour.

Fantastic, the best bit is the female usb connection. I charged on a Yacht for 1 month, my ipod countless times, you can get the batteries anywhere, and per 2 AAs i could charge my ipod 60g 2 times, and it is very very quick at charging.

Bought this product to charge my iPod, it was just a bonus that it came with adapters for my phone and other gadgets. The charger works with my phone, however when i plug it into my iPod touch 2g, the charge icon on the iPod goes berserk! The slightest jolt or bump and the iPod will stop charging. Also, it's debatable as to whether or not this even charges my iPod; i put a new set of batteries in the charger, left it for a few hours, by the time i got back, the batteries in the charger had ran out and my iPod still had the same charge level!

Gives rather poor performance on devices that have high drain due to inefficient voltage conversion. Tested on a Xperia mobile phone which has 3.7v 1500mAh battery giving 5.5 Wh capacity. Used a pair of Sanyo eneloop batteries in the PowerChimp which gives 2.4 v 2000mAh and 4.8 Wh Capacity. So the eneloops have 87% capacity of the phone but in use they could only charge the phone 20%. Most of the lost power is heat. As the PowerChimp got quite warm and would have better been suited as a hand warmer than a mobile device charger. Perhaps the charger would have performed better if it held 4 AA's and not 2.

Tried the PowerChimp on a Bluetooth gps receiver and the PowerChimp was able to fully charge the device and didn't get warm also. So the PowerChimp works, just not on devices that have a higher drain.

After finding myself stuck with my phone or Mi-Fi battery flat on several occasions, I got this as a backup charger that doesn't rely on mains power or a lighter socket. If portable power was this product's only feature, I would have not have been happy, as it only provides a partial charge. With two fully charged 2000mAh Ni-MH batteries, it gives a ~20% charge to my Nokia 5800 phone or enough for an hour of usage on my Mi-Fi pocket Internet router. So if you're looking for portable power for camping or where you expect to be away from mains power, this is unsuitable for that purpose.

There are other features I do like about this product that other portable chargers lack:

* USB AA charger - Plugs into a USB port to charge two AA batteries.
* Built-in LED torch - Also more compact than my 2xAA torch.
* Effective hand warmer - While charging a phone, it gets quite hot after 15 minutes and lasts a further 30 minutes until its batteries run out.
* USB charging lead - Its USB adapter lead can be connected to any of its tips to charge a phone directly from the Laptop/PC's USB port.

In fact, the main part I use is the USB charging lead, as my Netbook keeps its USB ports powered even when it's off and this lets me charge my phone directly from the Netbook by sacrificing a bit of its remaining battery capacity.

i bough this for my itouch 32gig and when i try to charg it it sais "not compatible with this software". even worse the person from the shop said it would work with an itouch 2g. luckily it wasnt a total waste of money as it half charged my psp.:(
overall i think this is a pretty rubbish portable charger.

Claims to be a charger for iPhone 4, shame the device doesn't recognise it as such. Has an LED flashlight built in, one LED, but as a torch it's not worth the money.

To give it it's due. If your phone runs out of charge and needs reviving, this will work, but only unto ten percent, after that, won't be seen as a charger by iPhone 4. Works for iPhones on older iOS. Otherwise a total waste of money

It sounded too good to be true, and guess what it is. No good for charging a Nokia N900 not even for topping it up. E90 does at least recognise it. Very disappointed as this shouldn't be a hard product to make work.
