Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

A powerful, yet light weight alternative to the conventional petrol or mains powered lawn mowers. Able to cut approx 500sq metres on a single charger, but even if the battery does run down you can still finish the job by using the manual/push power mode. The cylinder blade cutting system is more efficient than rotary types and produces a much cleaner cut, this in turn help keep your lawn healthy. The battery is easy to remove and replace and is locked into position by laying its handle down. A removable key immobilises the product so it can be left safely in gardens which children use. The handle parks vertically which means it takes up less room when being stored.

On board electronics protect the motor, battery and gearbox from overload, due to the blades stalling or similar and a mechanical clutch prevents mechanical damage. A LED also warns you when the battery is nearly depleted, and will break the circuit before any damage can be done. To start the mower a double action system is fitted for safety, there is a full width trigger which can be held by either hand.

General use - It's easy to start up and use. The height settings are easy to adjust and I get a very close cut with the lowest setting. It takes me about 10 minutes to cut my lawn, approx 30ft x 20ft. The grass collector box is very easy to remove & empty.

Storage - Doesn't take up much space as you can push the handle forward so that it's vertical & the grass box detaches and folds flat.

Battery charging - 1st charge does take a while, think it was about 14 hours but thereafter topping it up has been pretty quick and there's a handy indicator light on the charger that turns green when the battery's fully charged.

CEL - emailed them to query delivery, they responded promptly but also sent me advice on using the mower, must have realised that I was a novice! They also encouraged me to contact them if I had any queries in future - great product and service.

I bought one of these mowers earlier in the year for my dad, as he has quite a large lawn and he is always moaning about tripping over wires and it taking hours to cut the grass. He has been delighted with this model - its really efficient, it cuts grass brilliantly and the fact it is cordless means he's not tripping over wires or having to use multiple extension leads. The mower is great quality too.

CEL CY1 Cordless Cylinder Lawnmower: RATING: 2 Stars

First, FOUR warnings which I did not pick up in the reviews and literature.

1.The brochure says the battery only lasts 2 years. Replacement cost in 2011: £45........whoops, that's expensive mowing. Where's the new battery technology? My old Jeep's battery is 12 years old!

    2. If you've got any characterful undulations in your lawn, you've got problems. You'll get stuck easily.

    3. If you don't mind not cutting to within 4 inches of an edge, don't worry, it won't without a lot of hard pushing and to-ing and fro-ing.

    4. If you don't mind re-fixing the grass collector to the mower 30 times in half an hour, don't worry either! It's good exercise for the back. I would allege that clearly the grass collector assembly was an after-thought.

So, if you've got a postage-stamp shaped lawn the verdant equivalent of the Utah Salt Flats, and you don't mind stooping to re-fix the grass collector every minute, and you don't mind buying a new battery every two years (assuming this company is still trading), then I'd say buy it. It's reasonably priced, practically light, easy to store on a wall, reasonably solidly made, safe, and the instructions are comprehensive.

Secondly, all-in-all, I would allege that the designers and manufacturers of this product have never mown a lawn and never tested it on anything more challenging than a perfectly flat surface. It has its applications I'm sure, but not for real gardeners looking for a small, practical, scrupulously efficient little mower!

Works well but room for improvement
I've a fairly large garden (about 200m2) and this mower performs really well. The cut is really neat, adjustable and it does give the stripe effect. Read more

    Good lawn mower
Although a little heavy the mower works well and the concept is excellent. I would think a hilly terrain might be difficult but it is great for our flat lawn
