I recently stumbled upon the world of yoga through the Wii Fit which I received as a present at Xmas. After completing all of the exercises on there, I found myself wanting more. Basically, I was looking for a book with poses in it and instructions on how to do them as I don't have a lot of spare time or much money to spend on going to classes. I searched on here for quite a while, reading reviews and such before choosing Power Yoga. Don't be put off by the title by the way. You do not need to be some fitness guru to do it! I am a complete novice and really haven't done much in the way of fitness for the majority of my, nearly, 36 years.
BBB has written the book in such a way that it will appeal to anyone regardless of their fitness level or experience. I have started with the sun salutations as she suggests. She recommends doing repetitions of these for a few weeks until you have mastered them. I did think to myself, "How boring!", but seriously, I soon learned that these are a challenge in themselves. Every day I do them, I feel that I have done something positive for my body. I can feel that I've used my muscles too! My strength and flexibility are increasing all the time and I've just moved on to including some standing poses into my routine.
The poses in the book do take a fair bit of practice but BBB talks you through each pose and includes photo's and adaptations for beginners and anyone with health problems.
This really is an inspirational read and you will find yourself just reading it for the uplifting stories and qualities it contains. BBB hasn't had it easy and knew she was looking for something in life. She came across yoga which centred her. I think a bit of that exists in everyone - where am I going? - what should I be doing?, etc. Indeed, yoga is doing a great job of making me focus and centre myself despite everything else that is going on and, trust me, that's no mean feat!
