1.0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware: This is only a 998 book, not 850, 21 Dec 2008
By Kevin C. Curtin - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: How to Power Tune the BMC/BL/Rover 850-1000cc A-series Engine: For Road and Track (Speedpro Series) (Paperback)
I am sorry to advise that this book is most likely NOT the 850-1000 book as described. Rather, it appears to be the book, by the same author Des Hammil, that only covers the 998 engine which is similar, but not identical, to the 850. This might seem to be a minor hairsplitting point, but the 998 book is not out of print or unavailable. It is still published by , and available from, its original publisher, Veloce Publishing, in England. The 998 book sells for a mere 15 English pounds sterling(about $22 U.S. dollars currently). Perhaps a desperate collector would be willing to pay the advertised price of $155 U.S dollars for a genuine 850 book which is long out of print, but this book advertised above has an ISBN that is assigned to the 998 book and I found not a single occurrence of the string "850" when I used the Amazon "search inside this book" feature. I have written to the seller just now to inform them of this likely error, but wanted also to prevent any prospective buyer from paying a lot of money for a rather inexpensive book still in print. It is not my intention to defame the sellers.

This book is well laid out and is easy to follow. I would recommend thisbook to any one who want's to squeeze more power out of the small bore a series engine.
