Finally, after so long of fans requesting box sets of their favourite childhood superheroes, Buena Vista decided to fulfil that request. The only problem is - they didn't make much of an effort.
If you have the 4 already released volumes of Mystic Force on DVD then you are going to have duplicates. All this set is is the 4 previously released discs, with 2 discs containing the rest of the series on.
Don't let the Amazon thumbnail fool you - this release is the COMPLETE series, not just a repackage of the volumes.
Anyway - the content itself... the previous releases weren't exactly brilliant. They had episodes all over the place, some random ones placed as special features, etc. Instead of doing the smart thing and reissuing the set on less discs and in storyline order, they simply had the 4 discs with 3 episodes on, then made 2 other discs with about 9 episodes on each. What is worse though, is the fact that these two extra discs are TV EDITS of episodes. That's right - basically they contain the exact edits you would see on television. While Mystic Force didn't get heavily edited on Jetix, some scenes such as flashing lights, sword slashes, etc are removed and while it doesn't distract from the storyline, it makes a fan feel a bit gipped. It almost makes as much sense to record the episodes off TV and deal with them having a Jetix logo in the corner.
The GOOD thing about this set and the others is the price. Here you are getting a 6 disc set (which could have been 3 or 4 discs if they had reauthored the originals) for about £15. Bargain for a little one who wouldn't know the different between the edits and episode order but loves anything 'Power Rangers'.

Don't let this review put you off the product. It is just a shame that such little effort was made with these sets in what could have been an easy job for a highly rated, close-to-heart TV programme. For the price, it is definitely worth it. Final thing - if you are buying all of the Disney season box sets (Ninja Storm, DinoThunder, S.P.D., Mystic Force and Operation Overdrive) and are hoping that they will look like part of a set on your shelf... then you will be disappointed. The spine art is a disgrace and is all over the place, they do not look nice on display.
