Ice T finally started to reach full potential with this album (with the pinicle being his OG album). The beats are typically for the period mainly produced by a simple drum machine accentuated by brief samples and scratching and in the main very funky. This is where the albums strength lies though, the stripped down beats allows the full menace in Ice's almost sinister at times voice to come through and leaves you concerntrating on all the words without complicated beats detracing from the rhymes. There are some classic tracks on the album, most noteably 'I'm Your Pusher', a clever play on Ice T being a dealer of music in the drug sense, with an underlying say no message. 'Heartbeat' is also a standout track as is the title track 'Power', 'Drama' and 'High Rollers' with it's slightly 70's cop show feel to it. Overall an essential purchase for anyone who enjoyed the Original Gangster or Iceburg albums, or other classic gangster rap of the period such as NWA or Ice Cube's solo efforts.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Power (Audio CD)
I have to say I was a massive fan of hip-hop back in the day and when I cleared out the old draw of tapes a few years back I promised myself a new clean cd version of this amazing album. For me it's full of memories, more than just music, it tell's stories makes you think and laugh but the raw beats and lyrics are why YOU have to buy this album, it sounds stripped back but crisp and tell's it's stories with no holding back. Not to slate modern hip-hop but most of it's crap talking so called gangsters writing music at the side of the swimming pool at the Beverley hill's Polo club, this was music from the ghetto and the anger was explosive.... I bought all the back catalogue from Ice-T and the review is the same for them all, dont stop with one they should be a journey of one big album.....

This was the very first rap album I ever purchased and it will always have sentimental value to me. I like every track on this album but I think the standout for me is the title track. Every Ice T fan should own this album. It is a 1988 classic in my eyes..
