Only for beginners! 8 Aug 1998
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
If you are a beginner to the field of nutrition, this book will give you a good start. But for any one that may have some basic knowledge of nutrition and wants to further expand his/her understanding of the field, SAVE YOUR MONEY. I expected a lot more from the book but found it to be a repeat of many similar books (but with a different cover and advertisement). If you are a strength trainer, athlete, or involved in any serious workout/sports, I recommend Dr. Michael Colgan's "Optimum Sports Nutrition" which is by far a better book (maybe even the best book) in giving comprehensive and scientifically proved ways to enhance yourself. Dr. Colgan's book covers nutrition, fat loss methods, supplements, and even workout plans!! Good Luck!

Nothing new to say 22 Jun 1999
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This books premise is that carbs are what we need the most of and that bobdybuilders consume way to much protein in their diets. There is really nothing new here just the same diet facts we have all heard before. Anyone who has any knowledge of training and dieting will find this book a waste of time. Susan and Maggie should spend some more time weight training and studying bodybuilding before condeming high protein diets, because we all know that they do work.

This book was just a review of basic nutrition. There is no new information revealed. How can a non-bodybuilder tell a bodybuilder how to get results? She lacks the practical knowledge that comes with competitive experience. The only helpful section I found was for caloric requirements for each periodization phase. Too little emphasis on protein, way too much emphasis on carbs, and the references for the research needed to be footnoted more clearly. Unless you've eaten junk your whole life and don't have a clue how to turn it around, save your money on this book and go buy some protein powder.

According to research, you can jump-start the glycogen-making process by eating .5 gram of protein per kilogram of body weight, along with a high-glycemic carbohydrate, such as dextrose, maltodextrin, sucrose, or even honey, within 30 minutes of exercise. "e;
