Feel The Burn! 18 Jan 2010
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Be warned this does get you sweating, but more effort = greater results. I've acheived tighter muscles and much definition within two weeks of using this DVD; 30 mins three times a week (which isnt alot for starters). i agree this does a whole body exercise but my inner thighs, the 'knee area' and bum have really seen the results and considering i use an exersice bike 4 times a week for 40mins, i was very suprised. The lower stomach really gets a tighten up. The actual motion and useage of a kettlebell is new to me, im a firm believer in free weights and resistance training and this is a thumbs up for individuality and exciting to try a new style of working out. The presentation style is to the point with an advanced workout by Angie and beginner workout by a co-host. Negative points are that you really do need 3 X 3 meters to perform most tasks and a reasonable ceiling height. Only one kettle bell is needed (i purchased two before hand!). Breathing in/out and holding the stomach in is an important part to training and more mention of this would be really beneficial to the viewer, im only aware of this from other stomach workout DVDs.

I have just received this long-awaited DVD. Whew!

I had purchased an 8kg kettlebell at the same time as placing the order for the DVD and received the bell some 2 weeks prior to the DVD. This gave me some time to get used to the weight and the feel of the bell using the exercise chart that came with it. I am a relatively fit female and am used to free weights. I had researched the weight of the 'right' kettlebell. After a few attempts I found the weight quite comfortable except when doing certain exercises (the windmill). I agree with the reviewer that commented it would have been useful to have an idea of what weight to use. In fact Angie suggests 15lbs for seasoned users and 10lbs for newbies.

I viewed the DVD initially to see what I would be expected to do. I thought, ok this seems manageable. However, I did not take account of using the 8kg bell and moving constantly for the entire programme (I had previously managed this weight doing individual exercises). This makes for a different type of exercise altogether. I was sweating within 5 minutes! I was unable to use my bell throughout the whole programme as the weight was just too heavy whilst moving around non-stop.

The programme is exciting (I'm waiting to see how my pain following my first attempt compares to the individual exercises I was doing before - and I was sore then!) however, I am now placing a new order for a lighter 6kg bell which is equivalent to the weight (15lbs) that Angie suggested for seasoned users. Hopefully I will be able to work towards using my 8kg bell with this DVD, but will still aim to use it for individual exercises and build-up.

I would suggest anyone who is considering the size bell they should buy think about a weight that they can maintain using for 40 minutes (the length of the programme)and also consider that they will be lifting above the head and swinging with one arm - all whilst moving at a relatively fast pace.

I have had this DVD for several weeks and used it a lot in that time. I love it. It is a tough workout even though I exercise 4 times per week (Tae Bo, cycling, body combat, pilates, running etc).
The first few times I did it I had to press pause to get my breath back - it gets my heart rate up even more than running. After I'd finished my legs were shaking.
I had definition in my arms and noticeably firmer glutes within 2 weeks.
I can now do it reasonably comfortably but I think this is a workout that grows with you - when it gets easy I'll move to my heavier kettlebell.
There are also variations on some of the moves to make it easier or harder.
Angie Miller is quite a serious presenter (even though she doesn't stop smiling once), but I don't find her irritating. She makes me laugh (accidentally) a couple of times with her comments but she explains the moves well.
The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is that there are too many lunges for me and I'm a bit protective of my knees as I need them for running!
The press up section is brilliant.
If you are new to kettlebells (as I was) get a lighter one first to learn the correct form. I used too heavy a weight first time and my back ached the next day. No damage done though.
