Drama with intersecting storylines in which four residents of Los Angeles are brought together on Christmas Eve by a mixture of luck and circumstance. Ray Liotta is Jack, an ex-con just released from prison who is told he has terminal cancer. Forest Whitaker is Charlie, an ex-priest trying to commit suicide after losing his wife. Meanwhile, Qwerty Doolittle (Eddie Redmayne) is a lonely young mortuary worker who finds himself faced with losing his business after the recent death of his father. 5.0 out of 5 stars Dark, but enlightning 14 Mar 2011
By PDM
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Following the lives of a number of individuals with troubled, and fairly unhappy existances probably sounds like like a depressing or boring watch. This film though is far from that. What you get is a look into the lives of people who in the main are decent and caring people who deserve better than life, or there own flaws have left them with. Its a film that proves you never no whats round the corner, good or bad. Not every situation is to desperate to recover from, even when the things that people allow to encumber and control thier lives actually happen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powder Blue 17 Feb 2010
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Gripping story, you are introduced to the characters in a short part of their lives when hope is distant. The miracles that bring them back from despair and how they influence each others lives. A small gritty part for Patrick, still my favourite actor.

2.0 out of 5 stars total mess of a movie 29 Feb 2012
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Here is a classic example of why a movie needs a good story; it needs to be based on a book or a good screenplay; it needs a writer! there is none of that here.
Instead we have an idea and some well known actors, but actors are simply mules - without a story they just pour on the emotion without any rhyme or reason.
and so it is here, and here is a list of Powder Blue's cliche's: tragic tart with a heart who has a dying child; ex-con, gangster who regrets his wasted life - who is also dying; black guy who wants to kill himself after his wife dies; transexual tart with a heart who does kill herself; nerdy geek who finds love. Morbido and libido in abundance but no mojo.
And in the midst of all the despair and darkness we have ludicrous fantasy sequences about heaven and the afterlife.
It's all just a total mess!
Ray Liotta has moments of greatness but even he could not help save this flop.
Jessica Biel is a great stripper, but couldn't she be allowed to be sexy and finish a strip without running off stage in self-indulgent tears?!
This movie should be shown to all aspiring filmmakers as an example of how NOT to make a movie...

I only purchased this DVD because I love Jessica Biel but what a disappointment it was. Only two words can describe it 'utter garbage.'
