This, the first in a series of Poulenc's chamber music, is an excellently varied and charming collection. Instruments include some piquant oboe in sonata, trio and sextet, where the bassoon is also represented, as well as flute, clarinet and horn.
The sextet for piano and winds is a delightfully lively piece, endlessly inventive, while the trio and two sonatas have an engaging and more intimate, almost bittersweet character.
In short, this is great music-making throughout, and well worth investigating, as both the playing and recording is of a high standard. If some of this doesn't bring a smile to your face...
