Book Description

18 Nov 2011
He counts her smiles every day and night at the train station. And morning and evening, the beautiful commuter acknowledges him-just like she does everyone else on the platform. But Blake Hartt is not like the others . . . he's homeless. Memories of a broken childhood have robbed him of peace and twisted delusions into his soul. He stays secluded from the sun, sure the world would run from him in the harsh light of day. Each day, Livia McHugh smiles politely and acknowledges her fellow commuters as she waits for the train to the city. She dismisses this kindness as nothing special, just like her. She's the same as a million other girls-certainly no one to be cherished. But special or not, she smiles every day, never imagining that someone would rely on the simple gesture as if it were air to breathe. When the moment comes that Livia must do more than smile, without hesitation she steps into the fray to defend the homeless man. And she's surprised to discover an inexplicable connection with her new friend. After danger subsides, their smiles become conversation. Their words usher in a friendship, which awakens something in each of them. But it's not long before their bond must prove its strength. Entanglements from the past challenge both their love and their lives. Blake's heart beats for Livia's, even if her hands have to keep its rhythm. Love is patient. Love is kind. Love never fails. Love never fails, right? In an interwoven tale of unlikely loves and relationships forged by fire, Debra Anastasia takes readers into the darkest corners of human existence, only to show them the radiant power of pure adoration and true sacrifice. Complicated families and confused souls find their way to light in this novel, which manages to be racy, profane, funny, and reverent all at once.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing 14 Aug 2012
By Vezzy
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I had this book on my wish list for sometime and i am now wondering why i didn't buy it sooner.

I laughed, I cried, I held my breathe and in the end I couldn't believe it was over.

This is a story of love, trust, healing and brotherhood.

Debra Anastasia took me on a rollercoaster of emotions. I was hooked from the very first page and hated to put it down!

My suggestion, don't wait as long as i did to take a trip to Poughkeepsie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Haunting and Beautiful. 21 May 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Firstly, let me just say that I read - ALOT! My kindle is never far from me and considering the amount I read, I have only reviewed about 1% on here, however I felt compelled to write... SOMETHING.

Thank goodness for my registration to the 'Goodreads' website, and the forums on there, otherwise I would never have heard of Poughkeepsie or this amazing author.

This book takes the reader on a rollercoaster journey, and from the first page it spellbounds you into a compelling tale of twists and turns, primarily one of love between two beautiful souls, Livia and Blake. Parts are very humourous and... incredibly violent. The love story itself sets the precident of how far would you go to protect the person you love? Would you throw everything you ever thought you was out of the window and look at the world with new eyes? Livia, the Heroine is a feisty, adorable lead and I loved absolutely everything about her. Her compassion for others really shone in her characterisation - however, she stepped up to the mark when things got heavy.

The backbone of this story is the bond between three Brothers, all of whom are not blood related but their world's collided the day they were thrown into the foster care system due to abusive homelives. Bound by violence and abuse, these 3 young boys leaned on each-other and it saved their lives - literally. Now adults, Beckett is a violent, Murdering mafia/drug dealing/pimp boss, feared by all in Poughkeepsie, Cole is part of the church, training as an assistant to a priest and Blake is a homeless 25 year old with a talent and a soul so pure, you wonder how anyone could ever have broken him.

Would you kill to protect your Brothers, and would you die for them in a second if it meant saving them from that fate? Yeah...

5.0 out of 5 stars Utterly brilliant 27 July 2012
By Apryl
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is an unbelievably clever book. I downloaded the novel expecting an easy, soft, romantic story but I was completely blown away by all the twists and turns. The drama and action were just brilliant! I especially love how different types of relationships weren't all squished in to one couple like many angsty novels. Debra Anastasia certainly took her time with each character and let their relationships develop just as they should. I loved the delecacy of Blake and Olivia, the urgency of Kyle and Cole And passionate fury between Beckett and Eve. They gave a great balance to such an unexpected action packed story. It eneded just the way I love a story to end too! Happily. I think I have a lingering crush on Beckett too. Excellent!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely amazing 19 May 2013
By Emma
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Where do I start with this book I loved it, I've owed it for a while and just got round to ready it and can't believe I waited so long. The story was lovely and I really like all the characters. I can't wait for the second book roll on december!

The love story between Blake and Livia draws you in from the start she is a ordinary commuter and sees a homeless guy everyday and smiles little does she know that he lives for the smiles and counts them. If the romance between the two wasn't enough it also includes Blake's 2 foster brothers and explains their story's many other authors would have done separate books but the way also the story's are entwined together makes the book even more gripping. I feel in love with all the characters and would highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another sleepless night! 18 May 2013
By Skylar
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What an emotional ride this book was. Although I didn't want to stop reading there were times when I had to put the book down, do something else until the pull was to great and I had to carry on reading again. I stayed up through the night to finish it and what an ending! Left me feeling happy and very sad - although looking through the Goodreads website I see there is Poughkeepsie II coming out in December - I won't want to miss it!

I was so sure when I initially downloaded this book that I knew what to expect and certainly the first part of the book met those expectations. Then .. bam .. the drama begins! Don't be fooled by the slow dreamy pace of the first few chapters, this is a roller coaster ride of a read.

I loved the characters - even those I felt I shouldn't like let alone love - and it was great that Debra Anastasia allowed us to really get to know the diverse group of "supporting" characters. The love and loyalty of three brothers was completely believable and at times heart wrenching to read.

This would make a wonderful film - mentally I have cast the stars!

I was very satisfied with the ending (thank you Debra!) and am very much looking forward to Book 2.

5.0 out of 5 stars action packed romance 20 Mar 2013
By alibabe
Format:Kindle Edition
I read this book in one sitting, got nothing else done... could not stop!!

Safe to say I actually loved this story. I've since read some of the negative reviews on here out of curiosity and don't understand...but we are all different, they seem to focus on the fact that this book has emerged out of fan fiction ... AND??? It's a book, a story, I don't care where it came from.....

I was totally drawn into this action filled romantic and angsty thriller...with guns and badass guys and a gorgeous tender love story running through it. What I really loved were the strong support characters who each had their own story alongside Livia and Blake.

This is quite far fetched....but it's fiction and that's the name of the game! It had me crying, and laughing and at all times desperate to read the next chapter. This was in my opinion a great book which I thoroughly enjoyed reading and would recommend to anyone who loves romance with some kickass action alongside!

Blake was not your typical alpha male...that title would go to Beckett, his foster brother, but I adored his gentlemanly ways, they had me swooning!!!!

If you've read some of simone elkes work this is similar - it has the romance/action of perfect chemistry if this helps you decide.

Going on MY favourite shelf xx
