Book Description

Girls mature more quickly than boys and so are usually ready to potty train earlier. However, they can also be more sensitive to the process as a whole. In Potty Training Girls, Dr Caroline Fertleman and Simone Cave provide a clear step-by-step guide, taking parents through preparation; introducing and encouraging your daughter to use the potty; troubleshooting and much more.

This invaluable parenting guide also includes:

- Checklists for both mental and physical signs that show your daughter is ready to potty train

- Guidance on what kind of behaviour to expect and how to manage it

- Sensitive advice if your daughter is a late starter or a 'rebel'

Potty Training Girls ensures that parents, and their daughters, pass this important milestone calmly, without worry or stress, and shows that it can even be fun!

Product Description

Review

"Starred review. In June 2009, I gave a starred review to Fertleman and Cave's "Potty Training Boys the Easy Way". This version for girls is just as excellent. Physician Fertleman (writing with health editor Cave) knows just how to present the relevant information to parents, covering topics like early preparation, night training, and common medical problems. Among the plethora of books on potty training (which include some idiotic titles that endorse 'naturally training' six-month-olds), Fertleman's two offerings should be the go-to titles for all things poop and pee. Unequivocally recommended." (Library Journal)

"This is a great resource for parents trying to tackle the potty training issue!" (Parent Magazine)

5.0 out of 5 stars Spot on advice for busy mums 24 Nov. 2009
Format:Paperback
This book is so useful because it targets the problems of potty training which are specific for girls - and gets right to the heart of the issue. Clever, astute and practical advice
that will make a tricky stepping stone much, much easier.

5.0 out of 5 stars Success! A brilliant new potty training method. 13 July 2010
By Judith
Format:Paperback
I have just potty trained my daughter in a week following the method in this cheerful and fun book. It really is different from other potty training guides, and it sounds too good to be true, but then it actually works like a dream. Also the book is full of useful tips and suggestions for troubleshooting. It was easy and quick to read, down-to-earth, and I can't recommend it enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple, flexible and successful! 9 Sept. 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I bought this book as my daughter was nearing her third birthday and showing no real interest in potty training. However, I began to realise it was perhaps my lack of knowledge of the whole subject that was holding her back. I didn't really know how to go about it and decided I needed a book - this was the first I came across.

My husband and I both care for my daughter part time (he does more during the working week) so we needed an approach we could both use and that we could fit around caring for our one-year-old son and also running two freelance businesses. This book sounded perfect, with its relaxed and flexible approach - and it was.

It answers all sorts of questions that might crop up - how to deal with going out (once you get to that stage), night training (not tried that part yet) and is a very quick read, which was essential. As soon as I'd read it I understood where I had been lacking (it sounds daft, but I hadn't really thought about what 'training' actually meant, expecting her to just magically pick up the process, as books not written specifically on this subject seem to suggest will happen).

It took between two and three weeks for her to become completely confident without a nappy during the day, including going out and about and short trips in the car. It's revolutionised all our lives! I expect we all would have got there in the end without this book, but it made the whole process so calm, easy and non-intimidating. I would recommend it to anyone and will definitely be reading the boys' version when the time comes!

This book has lots of upbeat helpful practical advise but I think it fails to highlight the differences between wees and poos which was the only real issue that we had. My daughter mastered the wees first but kept pooing in her pants for months afterwards. I now know from reading other material on the internet that it is a common issue that children can do wees first but poos can come much later. This book fails to both highlight this issue and explain how to train children to poo on the potty. It's as if the authors have never had first hand experience of this issue which makes me question their expertise.

I think this book probably works better for those more easier cases - who probably don't need a book anyway....

Format:Paperback
Some excellent tips throughout this book. Read it, cherry picked what I liked. Stayed cool and within 2 weeks I went from hesitant to going out to spending the day out and about with no accidents, no travel potty's, no fuss and a happy little girl in her princess knickers!

5.0 out of 5 stars Potty training guide review 27 July 2011
Format:Paperback
I bought the book to give me useful tips for potty training my 2 year old daughter. It has provided useful advice for knowing when to start and for overcoming obstacles. I have subsequently taken a more relaxed approach and I would recommend the book to anyone who is anxious about potty training. I wish I had read the book a long time before even attempting to start potty training.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for potty training girls gently 27 Sept. 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
We used the boy version of this book to potty train our son a couple of years ago and it was fab. When we decided it was time to train our daughter, I thought I should get this girl version. Really glad I did. It's equally useful, full of good advice and designed to fit into most people's lives. It's a gentle way to potty train and doesn't require parents to take time off work to do it! Loads of practical advice, a trouble-shooting section and short chapters make it easy to read and implement. Potty training will never be a pleasure but it's certainly not stressful if you use this method. Our daughter seems to have cracked it in a couple of weeks - not bad at all.
