SPARKADIA Postcards (2008 UK 12-track CD album - Formed in Sydney in 2004 Sparkadia started out as a project between lead vocalist Alex Burnett & drummer David Hall. Jamie Davis [Ark Recordings] heard their work when in Australia for a friends wedding; he in turn played some of their demos for producer friend Ben Hillier [Blur Doves The Horrors Depeche Mode] who willingly put his hand up to produce the album. This debut album by the Australian quartet is one of the best pop/rock albums I have heard over the last few years. The songwriting is very strong throughout and Alex Burnett's unique voice is both strong and vulnerable in parts. Not widely known outside Australia Sparkadia are sure to become a bigger band with their release of the upcoming sophomore effort The Great Impression. If you enjoy guitar pop/rock this comes highly recommended.

Sparkadia's album Postcards is an impressive debut album from the Sydney based band. The highlights include the excellent Jealousy, Morning Light and Too Much To Do, although to be fair, most of the songs are good. The music has a retro 80's alt-pop sound, with catchy melodies and some delightful harmonies. At times they remind me of Prefab Sprout and Aztec Camera, and a little of Belle and Sebastian with their love of a sweet melody.
The lead vocalist Alex Burnett has an interesting voice which tends to lean towards the non-mainstream vocal style of the bands mentioned above. It is a beautiful voice, but not in a radio-friendly way.
One last thing, the video to the song Jealousy is brilliant and well worth heading to YouTube to catch a glimpse.

Bought this album couple of years ago but am still loving it! He has a wonderful voice. Easy and fun listening, every song is unique.
