Book Description

24 Sep 2004 0811840271 978-0811840279
Renowned illustrator and children's book author Henrik Drescher turns his unique visual talents to creating letters for the dead - and mailing them. Finding out how far they get before they are returned, Drescher pieces together a vision of how the postal system works in the afterlife with engaging art and humorous inferences. Internationally renowned illustrator Henrik Drescher, author of Turbulence, has created a beautiful piece of bookmaking and a distinctive literary sortie: a collection of ingeniously illustrated letters to famous figures - all of them deceased - sent through the postal service. Each spread shows the decorative letters themselves and, when available, evidence of the lengthy journeys they took, from international postmarks to the final "Returned to Sender" stamp.

4.0 out of 5 stars Visual 31 Jan 2006
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This is a very visually based book that explores possibilities with an added slice of humour. Ideal for an art student as it provides quick sketchbook inspiration from a very collage/graphic based angle. The lack of text is a downfall for me but could be perfect for someone else!
Favourite line:letter to John and George, two of the insect based quartet!

5.0 out of 5 stars My new best friend 10 Sep 2005
By SunshinePup - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book is delightful. It makes me so happy, i carry it around with me and show it to all my friends and i sleep with it next to my bed. Drescher's take on the universe of life and death is refreshingly magical, upbeat, and FUN. The art is gorgeous; the text, tho minimal, is a kick in the pants to read; the layout and construction of the book are inspiring. I recommend it to anyone who thinks about the four-way-stop intersection of life/death/frivolity/art, who is interested in mail art or any art, or anyone who just loves a good solid thoughtful laugh.

5.0 out of 5 stars An odd, fun visually embellished collection evolves 5 Nov 2004
By Midwest Book Review - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Presented in the visual postcard style of Griffin And Sabine, Postal Seance: A Scientific Investigation Into The Possibility Of A Postlife Postal Existence is a fun hypothesis where author/illustrator Henrik Drescher wonders about the ability of inhabitants of the afterworld to receive letters using earthly mailboxes as portals. His experiment here: to address correspondence to the dead: his intention, to chronicle the efforts to contact made by James Joyce, Bucky Fuller, and others. An odd, fun visually embellished collection evolves.
2.0 out of 5 stars Not that funny 31 Aug 2011
By A. Blaney - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
The booklet is pictures of postcards mailed to the deceased, sans address. I'm not surprised they hit the circular file instead of being returned. The art is awful. The description was much funnier than the book turned out to be.
