Fabian Hightower has been killed in a car crash. At least, that is what a policeman is asking Alex, his mother to believe. But Alex knows she saw him that morning - at a time when he must have been dead. When the funeral is over Alex tries hard to forget her bizarre experience. But her mind seems to be playing strange tricks on her, turning her grief into horror. When she turns to a medium her worst fears are realised. Fabian has unfinished business and he is determined to come back. But why? Whatever the answer, something terrifies the medium so much she refuses to return. Alex longs to turn to others for support. But there is a secret about Fabian that only she knows ... a secret she must never share.

About the Author
Peter James is an award-winning novelist and film-maker. He was educated at Charterhouse and then film school. All his novels reflect his deep interest in medicine, science, technology and the paranormal. After living in North America for a number of years, where he was the executive producer on THE MERCHANT OF VENICE, starring Al Pacino, Peter James now lives in Sussex.

Having followed the writings of this author and enjoyed every book so far, this one brings it's own cast of strange charecters who jump out from the pages. A grieving mother is torn between the dead and the living, tormented and terrified she embarks on a frigteningly realistic journey which grips and twists as it goes. Again Peter has me sitting on the edge of the seat, I think I've got it then realize I haven't. This supernatural thriller is totaly believable and worryingly real. Other favourite titles include Host and Denial. My only complaint is that I read them faster than Peter creates them!

I couldn't put this down. I only picked it up because I had nothing else to read and now I can't wait to buy more of his books. I hope they're all as good as this.

Well worth buying and reading.

An interesting read by a very clever author, although this is not his best book. Fabian is killed in a car crash, and his mother is haunted by him as mysterious things keep happening to her. I particularly loved the invention of the old ballroom under the lake, I found this really fascinating, what a fantastic and spellbinding idea.
