Whilst I started the Fallen Angels series with no real intention of enjoying them as much as I did the Black Dagger Brotherhood, the series has grown on me book by book and this one was no exception.
There were some neat little holy sh*t moments for me this time around, things that have been tantalizingly left hanging, my only hope is that they will, eventually, be bought to a conclusion. Why can Sissy see halos? Why has Adrian not got a halo? If Jim relinquishes his "job" as the saviour will Sissy be his replacement? To name but a few.
For fans of Ms Ward this is another must, but please, if you're new to her works the Fallen Angels should be read in order or they really won't make much sense.

You really shouldn't start with this book if you haven't read any of this series before because it will make no sense at all. I advise you to go back and start with Covet: Number 1 in series: A Novel of the Fallen Angels and when you have read the other four books you will be ready for this one - and if you are a fantasy fan I encourage you to do so as they are an interesting and well written set of novels.

If you have followed the series thus far you will be delighted with this installment. I really didn't have a clue all the way through the book what was going to happen next. The author handles a number of plot threads and twists them together at the very end into a satisfying conclusion to this story but with plenty of matters to be resolved in the next book.

The fourth book ended with a cliffhanger as Jim made an offer to Devina which outraged heaven - in this book we see the consequences of his actions, some of which are anticipated and some of which will come as a shock to the reader. There is also the fifth soul which Jim has to save - this is an interesting love story, again full of twists (it is surprising what will result when you bleach your hair !) and you have no idea until the very end whether Jim or Devina will triumph. We also get to see a little bit more of heaven and understand how it works and the rather silly English stereotypes of the first few books are fleshed out to become real individuals here. Jim tries to do his best in increasingly difficult situations, Adrian is still living with the sacrifice which he made for Matthias, they are all suffering from the death of Edie, and Devina tries yoga as well as therapy to handle her stress.

Possession is the fifth book in the Fallen Angels series by American author, J.R.Ward. With the score between the evil Devina and the saviour Jim Heron now three souls to one in Jim’s favour, Jim takes the wholly unexpected step of giving away one of his wins to Devina in exchange for the release of Sissy Barten’s soul from Hell. Of course, Jim has not thought through the further ramifications of this drastic action: Archangel Nigel’s shocking action is matched only by Archangel Colin’s reaction; Adrian, meanwhile, is concerned that Jim is ignoring the war in his distraction with Sissy. And the soul in question for the fifth round of the war? Could it be children’s book illustrator, Cait Douglass, who seems torn between her attraction for the charismatic G.B. Holde, and the sexy Duke Phillips? Could it be G.B., singer, composer and actor, who seems perhaps a little too good to be true? Could it be reticent road-worker and Iron Mask bouncer, Duke, who has a past he is unwilling to reveal? As Devina continues to collect trophies and play dirty, she seems to be gaining the upper hand (although her session with Adrian is ironically humorous). She makes a rather intriguing suggestion to Jim, one of several twists in the plot. Sissy, too, is a surprise once she recovers somewhat from her ordeal, both in character and abilities. Fans of Ward’s BDB series will be delighted mentions and cameos of characters from that series. Ward’s characters are engaging, her plot original and her dialogue has its own special appeal. There are plenty of hints and unanswered questions to have fans seeking out the next book in this addictive series, Immortal.

This book was hard to take...but without equivocation....it took me to a very dark place where my emotions were in disarray and my sanity was losing battle between hope and hate!

The author's libretto is sharp and gives you punches from just every direction and you are unprepared for the twists and turns that ultimately put you on an emotional rollercoaster! This book is not for the faint of heart: instead, it's gritty, dark, intense and raw and does not apologies for its layout....reading this book is a journey through so many conflicted thoughts and emotions...you either take it to your heart or hate it....my heart was torn and the very struggle was so powerful I could not put the book down regardless how painful, messy and f**** up it was! It's the powerful emotional depth of the story that got to me and the author's strength is the ability to write emotions in a manner that blows you away and make you feel the real power of its impact! I love this type of writing..its not apologetic and gives you that feel of "reality"...The author also managed to give me foundations to care for my characters and I did not wanted to separate myself from them!

Speaking of which.....

Jim is a very interesting character to watch...The layers are thick and in this book the wall he had build around himself cracked to an epic proportions making him an even more tortured hero than he already was before....the author is ruthless and does not spear Jim in his worst moment of weakness...I suffered with him and rutted for him so much....His obsession for Sissy took him to the very hell he so desperately wanted to escape! His sacrifice to rescue Sissy's soul from hell comes at a price that none could predict...
