Book Description

30 Sep 2012
A Biblical Approach to Raising a Respectful, Responsible, and Capable Child "Train a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not turn from it." (Proverbs 22:6) As Christian parents, you know you need to train your child, yet you probably wonder just how you can accomplish the fulfillment of this Scripture. What kind of parenting ensures that your child will become a responsible, capable adult who can choose to love and follow God for life? Positive Discipline in the Christian Home clarifies how the Bible and the time-proven skills of Positive Discipline can work together. Using stories and passages from the Bible as well as real-life stories from families using these principles, this non-denominational book will show you how to: * Teach your children life skills and values * Set appropriate boundaries with your children *Understand and respond to misbehavior with loving guidance *Follow through with kindness and firmness at the same time * AND MUCH MORE!

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy it now!! Worth every penny! Best book for parenting besides the bible! 1 July 2006

I have EVERY parenting book under the sun, and didn't plan on buying this one until I stumbled over it in a quaint Park City, Utah bookshop. This is the only great BIBLICALLY based book I have ever seen to guide Christian ( and all) parents in raising children WELL with out spanking ( there is scripture to back it up gals). I wish every pastor, and every family could own this book and read it- it works, and it is based on solid biblical teaching without the issues of corporal punishment. Don't hesitate- you'll buy extra copies to give to your friends!

5.0 out of 5 stars Changed how I view parenting 30 July 2010
By Julie Knight - Published on Amazon.com
Positive Disciple has revolutionized how I parent. It teaches how to communicate kindness and firmness, belonging and significance to children. I highly recommend it for both parents and teachers. I will say that this book is merely a christianized version of Positive Discipline. It is the Positive Discipline program with supporting Bible verses added. In light of that, I would recommend any of the PD books including this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars More than scripture sprinkled into a book 24 April 2009
By R. Miller - Published on Amazon.com
A Biblical approach to raising a respectful, responsible, and capable child. This is more than a few Scriptures sprinkled through a new-age parenting book. Positive Discipline was modeled by Christ and is not a new "invention". While there may be more understanding today of the long-term benefits of this style of parenting it does not mean that someone made it up yesterday. The book does an excellent job of helping parents communicate with children and create a strong family bond.
This is a valuable tool for those who are tired of being inundated with "spare the rod" mentality.
Chapters include:
What is Discipline?
The Challenge of Christian Parenting
Family Atmosphere: The Foundation
The Scriptural Backbone of Positive Discipline
"But the Lord Looks at the Heart": Getting into Your Child's World
What Does Birth Order Have to Do with This?
The Four Goals of Misbehavior: Why Do Kids Do What They Do?
Positive Discipline Tools: What's in Your Parenting Tool Kit?
The Magic of Encouragement
"A Gentle Answer Turns Away Wrath": Understanding Feelings and Cummuncations
Family Meetings
Celebrating the Family

5.0 out of 5 stars It has revolutionized my thinking! 16 Sep 2009
By Janet S. Morris - Published on Amazon.com
Positive Discipline in the Christian Home has revolutionized my thinking and how I respond to those who I find challenging, whether it be a child or an adult. I am learning to respond with kindness AND respectful firmness, something I didn't even think was possible before reading this book. The great thing about it is that it gives kind and firm tools to use that exemplify Christ's teachings with "how to's."
