This book is the one I pick up regularly (out of my collection of around 12-15 Portuguese language books!)

It gives clear guidance on verb tenses, uses, formation and variations.
Short exercises at the end of each 'chapter' help you by testing yourself.

Very easy to pick up and put down in short bursts (great if you're busy, like me and most of us!) and not too heavy that you couldn't spend a good period of time studying with it!

Has been invaluable in my Portuguese education and a great companion to the 501 verbs book!

essential 23 Mar 2010
By Stu
This is without a doubt the best book I've read about learning Portuguese. It includes pretty much every type of Portuguese verb construction you'll ever encounter, many of which are completely ignored by other books.

It includes detailed explanations of how and where to use each type of verb and plenty of example sentences to show you how they're really used in everyday speech and writing.

Another plus point is that it explains many informal ways of speaking: for example, the use of 'a gente' and the second person singular for 'we' and how the past imperfect can be used in place of the conditional. Understanding these are essential if you want to really understand Portuguese, and not just an idealised textbook version of it.

Extremely useful 26 Oct 2010
In this book you'll find verb tables (for regular and irregular verbs) like in many others. What is special in this book, and extremely useful, is a very thorough explanation of when and how to use different tenses. Tricky areas like subjunctives and the different forms for the second person are very clearly explained.
