PDQ is the perfect course for the person who wishes to take the first steps towards speaking a new language or would like to learn all the language needed for travelling and holidays abroad.
Contents
Audio Recordings: PDQ covers a wide range of every day situations and uses native speakers to deliver an active vocabulary of over 500 words. Lessons are bilingual, which means that it is possible to complete a PDQ course by simply listening to the recordings. Lessons on CD allow the student to instantly access different parts of the PDQ course.
Course Book: PDQ contains a full-colour 64 page programme guide. Packed full of pictures and illustrations it helps give a feel of the country and set the scene for language learning. In addition the course book reinforces the language learnt in the audio recordings as well as teaching reading and writing skills, which will be extremely useful when abroad.

Surely there's better,
By Alex Braxton (London, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Portuguese (Linguaphone PDQ) (Audio CD)
It’s what you’d typically expect from an audio language tool – a tad prim and proper, with overly polite scenarios and outdated images in the accompanying book. As a young twenty-something it was very clear this tape wasn’t intended for me. Many of the examples are orientated to an older and more mature age group. On the up side, I am grasping a basic grounding in pronunciation, though I’m sure any language tape would have done the same. Be aware the pronunciation is European Portuguese and not Brazilian. The most unfortunate aspect of the ‘audio experience’ is that I found myself impersonating the outdated English-speaking narrators more than picking up the language – they’re a distraction rather than an aid. Good luck with your learning.

Very limited,
By Andrea (Somerset, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Portuguese (Linguaphone PDQ) (Audio CD)
Somewhat disappointed with this course. Found the vocabulary limited and not at all suitable for learning the basics for going on holiday. There are two very long sections - covering more than a CD - on describing your wife and children and the house you live in - not useful when you don't have either! I have since purchased the Michel Thomas Foundation Course, which is absolutely brilliant and only a couple of pounds dearer. You can listen to a one hour intro sample on the Hodder website.

Good recording,

This is a good audio resource. It is focused on Portugal and gives you good basic listening (and speaking) practice. It is perhaps a bit conservative in approach, but it all depends on what you are looking for.
